Sorry to be so long-winded. Page two: So, I am laying 2 with 230 to the green. I can't hit my three wood that far, so I knew I would be attempting a lay up. The shot required a slight fade to provide the best look at the green. Unfortunately, my ball sailed left, flying low, straight toward a ditch, behind which were large trees. I advanced to the area without any hope of finding my ball. Indeed, the ball was nowhere near the ditch. The drop I took left me with a partially obscured view of the green about 55 yards away, leaving only the far right side of the large green exposed. I hit the dropped ball, which stopped on the far right fringe. When my partner and I arrived at the green, I was looking only at my ball. What I did not notice was a ball resting about ten feet from the cup on the left side of the green. When I suggested that that ball was his, he pointed to another ball a few feet away. We both inspected the ball in question and, sure enough, it was my original ball. We surmised it careemed off a tree sideways onto the green. We could come up with no other alternative. For the record, I played the second ball--terrible score. First 230 yard 3 wood I ever made!

I shot a very nice (for me) 43 on the front today. That's a new personal best for 9. My putting was on, short game was not killing me, and I didn't hit into a single bunker. Most importantly, I didn't lose a single ball. It's amazing how many strokes you can give up just by spraying balls into the woods. Well. Not really that amazing.

I proceeded to follow that up with a very mediocre (again by my standards) 53 on the back. Even there things were still working. I just mishit several tee shots. But I never panicked or got out of sorts. And best of all. I didn't lose any balls. I think that's a first for me. One round, one ball. It's really the little things that keep me going.

Shot 76 (41/35) today. 69.2/121. Triple bogeyed the first hole. 2 birdies on the front and two more on the back. Hit some mammoth tee shots today. My new grips did me right today, and I never thought I would do this but I went back to wearing a glove. Had so much confidence with the clubs in my hand, esp. the driver. 407 yard Par 4 had 93 yards left to the flag. Putted real well. Very good day overall.

I shot an 83 at Oakland Hills yesterday (with one niggle on the last hole when we were playing quickly to get Jeff off to work). Most of my bad shots were the result of bad swings (I'm working on a change). And my unfamiliarity with the greens - I had eight birdie putts inside of ten feet and made one of them.

I started the round really nicely: cut a driver to the left side of the fairway. Hit an easy six-iron to about 8 feet. Hit the putt where I wanted... it died a little more than I thought and lipped out. Split the fairway with a little draw on #2. Reached the green with a 3-wood. Putted the 60-footer 15 feet past the hole... and then made the come-backer.

One under after two holes at Oakland Hills, yeah, I was about ready to quit.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Shot a 90 (including a generous 6 on the infamous 16th) with Erik and Jeff at Oakland Hills. Was encouraged by my 42 on the front, but my awful driver swings worked their way down through the bag on the back. I actually putted great, or the damage would have been worse (made a 40-footer for a 7 on No. 11; whipped cream on s---). Fun round of golf!

79 from the tips at the course I'll be playing in a tourney 6/20 - pretty good, considering only one drive went the way I wanted it to go and only 2 putts had correct read on them Gotta knock 4 or 5 strokes off before hopes for qualifying tough

I shot 77 with 31 putts and my chipping was very good. My drives were ordinary but my iron work has improved immensely from the start of the season. Some accuracy problems (alignment) with my long irons but am making good contact. Only had one double bogey, as a result of losing my drive.

Shot a 6 over 78 today at a course that I've only played twice, so I was pretty happy. I had a pair of 39's, but I did not putt well at all on the front. Three 3 putts on the front. I did my math wrong, and I thought that I had shot a lot more... oh well.

Fantastic day of golf on sunday (6/4/06) ! Started semi-normal with a 38 (2 over) on the tough front nine of my home course (birdie-par-birdie-double-par-birdie-bogey-bogey-bogey) 3/7 fairways, 4/9 greens and 13 putts... Then the switch was flipped. I went crazy on the back nine : birdie-birdie-par-birdie-par-birdie-birdie-par-birdie for a 29 ! 6/6 fairways, 8/9 greens, 12 putts. Can you spell "ON FIRE" ?!?!?
When it was all done I carded a 67 (4 under) for a new personal best, with 69.23% FWY and 66.66% GIR, 25 putts. I played it from the memeber's tees ( 6069, 70.7/129) so of course I was teased about it in the clubhouse... so I decided to go back out and play from the tips (6425 71.8 /131)... and shot 1 over par 72. Of course in both rounds I left a few strokes out there ( i.e. missed 4 ft putt for an eagle on 18 to score 66 ), but overall it was the best day of golf in my life. Taylor Made rac MB - thank you

Had a good round on Saturday...not great, just good. Shot a 73 on a par 71 golf course that played around 6400-6500 yards. I was clean on the first 9 with 8 pars and 1 birdie for a 35. The back was more erratic with 4 bogeys and a birdie.

I probably had the best day off the tee this year. I hit 11 fairways and struck the ball really well off the tee. I only hit 10 greens but at least 3 were on the collar and putting/bump and run up-and-downs.

I still have yet to play a round this year where I felt like I putted great. I only had 29 putts, but that was by virtue of easy up-and-downs. I only made one putt outside 10 feet and 3 putted once from 20 feet.

Thanks

Didn't think... Hm... yeah... reality was - I knew what's going on and I did think a lot. Every swing thought was "DON'T BLOW IT!" Missed eagle putt (from 5 ft) was a typical "under-pressure-miss" (ala Adam Scott ) - slight pull left. I think it's the hardest thing to do, when you have a round like that to stay in the moment... and all you need is to have your mind wonder off for a second with something like "holly smokes, 66 sounds REALLY cool..." and it's all over

6 over par 42 for nine holes with a both a triple and double bogey at Riverview Golf Club outside Easton, PA. On the plus side, I tried out of the new FT-3 drivers and liked it a lot, but really wanna try out the Tour version with a heavier shaft, a super light head attached to a 55 gram shaft just feels weird to me.

I hardly ever post here because its hard to post my scores with all the fine scores that get posted here. I thought I'd post this one though. Even though its still not into the 80's yet, I had seven pars on Saturday. I thought that was pretty good. The problem was that I had a couple of 8's on the card due to lost balls from trouble off the tee. If only I'd have kept the ball in the short grass! Ugh.

Even so, I am very encouraged as my second shots and layups are improving dramatically. My iron play has taken a turn for the better through some subtle swing and grip changes. I have been reading Hogan's Five Fundamentals. His discussion on grip and swing plane is very good.

With a little more focus I think my game is ready to take another step in the right direction.

    • I mean, if you like GZ, and would drink it more often during a round than water, then keep drinking that. If you walk 18 holes, on a hot summer day, and drink 2 20-oz waters or 4 20-oz GZ. You will benefit more from the 4 20-oz GZ because it's like 99.99% water, lol. Yea, if flavored water makes you drink more water, then that works better.  I would just monitor the salt intake relative to your own health. I am sure some people might have to be careful. GZ is 280 mg salt. So, 4 of those is over 1000 mg. It is over 4 hours. That is like half the daily recommended intake of salt. You are probably losing some of your salt reserves playing golf. Long winded way of saying, it depends on the person.
    • My first few years playing golf, I'd take a 32 oz Gatorade (probably pre-zero;  almost certainly Gatorade Tiger when that was a thing) with me in my bag, but I'd otherwise take water (in about the volumes I take now).  From your post, it seems like going back to something like that might be a better idea for me -- primarily water (maybe with some fruit or mint leaves thrown in for flavor) and one bottle of sports drink, rather than a diluted sports drink across all I'm drinking?
    • Yesterday evening, I watched The Gentlemen, a Guy Ritchie film from 2019 that I evidently missed on first pass.  It's a par, but it's a par on one of those long par-4s where the par feels like a birdie. It's in a similar vein to some other movies like Lock Stock, Snatch, or Layer Cake (which was Vaughn, not Ritchie).  If you liked those, I think you'll like this.   A friend suggested it a few months ago, and I started it one night and couldn't finish because I was having trouble following.  In retrospect, that was an artifact of trying to watch the movie too late in the day.  I started the movie at the beginning earlier yesterday and got to enjoy the full thing very much, but unlike some other movies, I encourage anyone to watch this when they're awake enough to catch which characters are which.  In my case, watching with subtitles helped me understand what some characters were saying.
    • Sweat contains about 800 to 1500 mg per liter. For me, about 45 minutes of moderately intense workout had me lose about 3-lbs of water weight. That is about 1-liter. Now, a thing you need consider how much salt you are getting from food. Humans have been perfectly fine eating food with extra salt added. Typically, people would get 500 to 1000 mg of salt just from eating whole foods. Most people eat processed foods, which have more salt. So, we probably are not salt deprived. We are constantly digesting food we eat and taking in that salt. Unless you are fasting, and working out, you probably are slowly getting salt back into your body.  I will say electrolyte powder is probably beneficial for people for intense training or long endurance activities in the perspective of improving fluid retention (helps in recovery) and preventing cramping. I would say, just drinking water is way more important in general. For something like running marathons, absolutely beneficial. For golf, this is a marginal benefit.  In terms of ideal electrolyte ratios, you want to be in the 2:1 to 4:1 sodium to potassium ratio. Though, I have also seen ratios closer to 20:1. This mechanism is vital for nerve impulses, cell volume control, and kidney functions. Potassium is essential for muscle contractions. Magnesium is good for muscles function as well.  Ultima Replenisher: 55mg salt, 250mg potassium, 100mg magnesium.  *Probably good for people who don't eat a lot of whole foods, or foods with a lot salt. Probably one in the same, lol.  LiquidIV: 500mg salt, 370mg potassium, no magnesium.  LMNT: 1000mg salt, 200mg potassium, 60mg magnesium. Skratch: 400mg salt, 50mg potassium, 50mg magnesium.  Transparent Labs: 500mg salt, 250mg potassium, 50mg magnesium. If I had to choose one, I would probably go with Skratch. My diet isn't 100% whole foods, so I get plenty of salt.  Note, if you have kidney issues, I would be wary of adding excessive salt. Salt can be very hard on the kidneys, and you might be negating the benefits of drinking that water.
    • I ran the nutrients for Ultima Replenisher  by my friend who is nutritionist. She said it was a decent breakdown. So I bought the berry and lemonade packs at Target. Will give a try on the course today.
