Same old story today.  Can't hit my approach shots to save my life.  The 3-putt on 18 didn't bother me too much.  It was like a 100 foot putt for birdie, decent lag, the par putt barely lipped out.  Need to figure out my woods and long irons, because everything else is working.  The good news is that I parred hole #3 for the first time ever.  440+ yard par 4 into the wind, hit 3W-3W to be just about a foot off the green.

If I'd shot this score last week I'd have been happy with it as it'd have equalled my best. But last week I shot a 90, beating my best score by 8 shots.

Driving was poor. Everything was poor really.

1 GIR - which I 1 putted for birdie is the highlight.

Played a practice round yesterday for my next tournament.  First time on this course (loved it!) and I struck the ball pretty darn well all day.  I had only two real mishit irons all day (PW approach on 5 - thinned and pushed, and 5I tee shot on 16 - severe toe hit) otherwise, I was hitting them nicely.  There was a 6 hole stretch in the middle where I really saw my potential.  Starting on 8 (my best shot of the day - a 211 yard 5 iron to a 211 yard hole :)) I had birdie putts of 8', 6', 15', 20', 12', 25'.  As you can see, my putting was - how shall I saw this - ummm, off.  Good news is that the driving is starting to come together lately, to the point that perhaps I can now start considering putting to be my "glaring weakness" and actually practice it!  My two crappy holes were caused by errant tee shots, but not like in the past where I would have sliced, or snap hooked them off the planet.  One was just a straight push into a bush where I couldn't find it, and the other was through the fairway and over a bunker (also lost in the bushes), dead straight, when a big draw was required.  In my tournament, I'm going to have to consider laying up off the tee, even though that is going to leave me with a 4 or 5 iron approach.

We're getting there!  Can't wait for 5SK in a few weeks!

Was able to finally get in 9 on Bermuda course. Scored 42 driving was excellent. 86% and would have been better but on the 8 had 3 kids sitting on fairway and didn't realize it was just a pile of dirt till in the downswing just caught glimpse of movement so backed off last minute so poor drive pulled. They were oblivious to their predicament. TILL I got up to them.

An even 100 at the Gold Course at Goodrn Horseshoe. I actually played very well, but I lost 8-9 strokes to struggling in the sand. Very impressed with the architecture!

I went to Stone Canyon today and played the black tees.....(73.2CR 141slope) This is a brand new "home course" for me in 2013, so I'm pretty excited about the game. I teed off at 6pm and played 13holes by dark at 730.    Through 13 holes, I was +4.

It was 79 degrees when I teed off at 6pm!!!  Wow........not bad for Kansas City!!

I made 1 birdie, 2 bogeys and 1 double, so I was playing reasonably steady golf.   This was my first round since the snow melted, so I'm pleased with the results.  I could have done a lot worse....LOL

So I haven't broken 80 since a New Years Day 78.  I've been really frustrated with my game of late, ballstriking in particular.  I take my son out to Buenaventura, he's playing a local junior event there tomorrow.  I want him to have a look at the track.  Easy course... from the tips it's 68.3/117, just over 5800 yards.  I shoot an even 35 on the front and 34 on the back for -1 and 69.  I have never been even close to par for 18 holes.  I've only ever been in the 70s half a dozen times.  I didn't even play that great.  But it was like all my misses just worked out perfectly.  Every putt for par went in.

Honestly, this is a seriously stupid game.

55 (2 FIRs and 1 GIR and 19 putts) + 47 (3 FIRs and 3 GIRS and 21 putts) = 102

My lowest proper round to date! :)

For the first time in my life I hit 4 FIRs and 4 GIRs at the same time and was rewarded with 3 pars and my 5th ever birdie!

The 47 on the way back in was also my lowest 9 hole score!

40 putts BUT I sunk my longest ever put to save a bogie from becoming a double or even a triple bogie when I knocked a 40 footer one putt in :)

113 at Ironwood Country Club in Greenville NC. 60 on the front and 53 on the back. Played from from the yellows, slope is 120 and yardage is 5965. Probably the hardest course I've played but a very nice one. Inconsistent ball striking and blowup holes are keeping me from my goal of breaking 100. I know it will come but I'm getting impatient. Playing for 9 months now and ready for a 99 already!

I can't think of a good excuse for the way I played today.  I guess it's because I just suck.  Had a lot of great shots and a lot of horrible shots.  Don't know why this is happening again?  I thought this part of my game was long in the past.  The majority of missed fairways were just by a little.  Got my first birdie in a long time.  Way too many +2,+3,and a +4.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day?

Played better today than yesterday.  Was on track to shoot one of my best rounds ever.  Had a bad hole on 14, with 2 shots from the bunker.  Fell on apart on 17 & 18.  Can't really explain it except for the fact that I was thinking that I was scoring well.  Maybe the thought of it screwed me up.  I need to fix my putting.  Had a 3-putt today which is a fairly new occurence.  Also missed some easy 1-putts.  I feel like this was a terrible round, but I guess that's progress.  Last year this would have been a great round, now it's a bad one.

Ok, so I was 7 over through 13. I hit 9 of 14 fairways and had 9 GIR. My ball striking was incredible for me at a fairly difficult course for the first time (Eagle Mountain in Fountain Hills, AZ if anyone has played it). 14, 15, and 17 were all par 4s under 350 yards. 16 was a 115 yard par 3. Looking at the card I thought I may par out and break 80 for the first time. I hit driver on all 3 par 4s and hit the fairway on all of them. So what did I score on those holes? Double, double, quadruple. 3 wedge shots from 90 yards or closer pulled left over the green. 3 shots from a bunker to get on the green, and then a 3-putt from 25 feet. A skulled chip over the green into a bunker. Oh, the 115 yard par 3. I had lost so much confidence in my wedges that I tried to hit a half-swing 9-iron, but I skulled it over the green into the desert. Triple bogey. 11 over in 4 holes. Final score: 89.

In the words of Crash Davis: F#@$ this F@#$%ing game!

    • Day 14:  I hit a bucket with my 7i and driver, didn’t hit my 7 well but my driver was good.  Played my first “real” 9 holes.  Sure, I had a few mulligans but I kept score.  Lost two balls in the water.  Had to chip from the edge of the water and did pretty good, just rolled too far past the hole.  Par was 33 and I wasn’t double but  I was closer to it than I would have liked.  I had a bogey on 9 so that ended it on a sweet note for me.
