I have a Ping K15 driver that always draws or hooks.  I have no confidence that I can consistently fade this thing.  I have another driver with a more flexible that I can always fade.  This happens with basically the same swing.  I'm thinking about carrying them both for a while to see if it helps.  Most golfers carry multiple wedges.  I know some that carry two putters.  I can't recall playing with anybody that I knew used two drivers during a round for different shots.  Maybe I'm just not aware of it.

I've been carrying my driver and my brother's Big Bertha that he keeps at my house as I get more used to it since I want to upgrade drivers eventually but I want to get a better sense of what I like / dislike about new drivers first. Also want to see if there's a measurable difference over a large sample. So far, not really. But I like the lower flight of the 9° vs. my 10.5° on windy days which is where I've noticed the biggest separation.

I've thought about doing this, but for different reasons.

Somtimes, I get to a hole that looks very wide open and my driver in hand feels a bit under powered. I think how great it would be to have a 48" driver to knock the ball as far as I can.

I actually just had the local Golfsmith build me a 46.75" driver, and it does carry about 5 percent or so longer than my Ping i25 even though the shaft is an X300 I had lying around. My goal is to get a super light 47" shaft to get me a full 48" driver with just a slightly higher swing weight than the i25. Hoping to get another 5 percent.

I carry a Titleist 913 and a Callaway Mini-Driver.  I use the Mini-Driver like a 3-wood.

I don't carry a three wood so I built a Thriver. 13.5* head shafted at 43". I carry it when I play a course that is tight on some holes. My normal driver is a PING G25 12*. The Thriver is about 10 -15 yards shorter but very accurate and great for those holes with tree lined fairways.

I don't carry a driver. I use a Adams 3 wood to tee off with and notice that I am getting the same distance or more with it than many others who use drivers. The beauty of it is, that my tee shots with the 3 wood are usually more accurate than the drives of those using drivers.

Thread title made me think of this ad:

But to answer more seriously, I know Phil Mickelson did it and I think so did Padraig Harrington.

One way to test if it might be for you is to read about how they employed the strategy and why and do a few practice rounds where you take an adjustable driver out and tweak it how you would want the 2 drivers setup for an official round.

I carry a TaylorMade R1 and a TaylorMade Aeroburner 14-degree mini driver. I use it in place of a 3-wood. It's easier to hit and goes farther. I'd highly recommend it.

I carried a 12.5 degree SLDR S I had shortened to 44.5" for most of this summer, but didn't hit it any better than my Covert 2.0 with standard shaft so ended up replacing it with a 3 hybrid to fill a gap between 5W and 4I. Hit the 3 hybrid so well I replaced my 4I with a 4 hybrid a few weeks back!

Why would you carry the R1 if the mini driver were more accurate and goes farther?

I played with a guy last year that had a 52 inch driver. He was in his 70's and was keeping up with me one the drive. I tried it, but it would take some time to get used to. Really have to keep your tempo.

I went to the flea market today to pick up a few balls out of the cheapo bin. Found some really great balls. I also found a Titleist 975 JVS 9.5* driver for $39 that looked like new. I have a friend who had one of these a while ago and loved it. I had to grab it. I'll be hitting the range tomorrow to test out the 3 drivers. If it looks like I can hit them consistently with one as a draw and one as a fade, I'll carry the two.

I personally think it is wasting 7% of your bag.  Having a driver and 3W is a great thing to have for differing length shots.  But having two drivers is not a useful thing in my opinion.  If you have one that draws most of the time line up down the right side of the fairway and hit it.  You would be putting a club in your bag for maybe 2-3 shots per round.  That doesn't make much sense to me I would always rather have another scoring club in my bag.

Sometimes on a mushy fairway when I'm only getting carry distances it seems my driver is under powered.

The K15 driver is designed to STOP the ball going right (for a right hander.)

It sure does.  I think it may find a spot in my garage.

The drive is such an important part of the game, why not have two clubs for that.  I can adjust with one less wedge.

I never carried two drivers, but I did carry a 9.5* driver, and a 12*  2 wood. Used the 12* on tighter fairways, and in place of a 3 wood which I did not carry at the time.  The 2 wood was a great all around club.

I agree completely. Few consider a driver a "scoring club", but every time I drive the ball well, I also score well.

I don't carry 2 drivers, but my 3W is 13.5 degrees, essentially a mini-driver without the name "mini-driver". I never use it off the deck. Only on tight fairways that have trees. No trees? Driver.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
