Hi all , im a new member and would like to ask for some of your wise thoughts ,

My grandson is now 8 years old and has taking up golf with me and he s fell in love with the game , I would like to buy him a milled putter which I can hide away from him until the time is right for him to have it , I was thinking which milled putter would hold its price more so its a kind of investment for him , sometimes its hard to put into words how to explain what you r trying to say but hopefully this makes sense , any replys would be truly appreciated ......jules

Off the top of my head I say Scotty Cameron (Titleist).

I cruise eBay for golf items. A Scotty putter, even used, is still fetching a couple hundred bucks.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

As long as you know that a milled putter has no advantage over any other type of putter.

Unless it is a "Tour Issue" Cameron, the value is only going to be a couple of hundred anyway. It is never an investment.

Best to let him choose a putter that suits him when he is fully grown.

But - in my opinion, the nicest milled putter is an Odyssey Black series or ProType with no insert.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Scotty Cameron "Circle Ts" hold there value but are extremely expensive. They can go for up to $4000 if your talking about something like an 009. I agree with the above that when that time is right to treat him to something that he picks out.

Scotty Cameron putters are recognized brand names, and tend to hold their value well. They're also somewhat timeless, in that Scotty Cameron doesn't overhaul their lines year to year, and the putters they sell now are basically the same as the putters they sold 15 years ago.

For example, the Studio Select I bought in 2008 is essentially the same as the Select model they sell now. I could have bought that Studio Select back then and kept it wrapped up until next year, and it's not like I would have lost anything.

A putter "holding it's value" and being an investment are two different things. Neither of which matter if you plan to use it and not resell it. Let the kid buy a putter that he likes when he needs a new one.

I have a 5 year old grandson.  I made him a putter from an old Golfsmith Firestar junior head I bought for $8 20 years ago.  He loves it.

If I were to buy him something new, I'd go to Sports Authority and pick a kids putter.  Probably $20 or $30.

Yeah, it's definitely better to let the person pick their own. My grandpa brought a putter to give me into the delivery room when I was born, and it's an old Titleist Bullseye putter that I think I have used a grand total of four times, and only once ever on a course. I just don't prefer a putter like that and I putt measurably worse using it than with the Newport that I have currently. I can't stand mallet putters but some people love them, it's just a very personal preference.

If you want to have nice customization options at a very nice price and like the look of an 009 than j recommend contacting Kingston putters. Really nice guy and super easy to work with. I currently game a Kingston and love it (though I am going to get an odyssey metal x milled mallet just to have a mallet option)

this is is my putter. Has my initials and my sons birthdate on it so o can always have part of him with me when I play.

Fyi, I have no affiliation with Kingston, I just love the sticks he makes

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
