Long story short I went for a fitting and I am very consistent with path but I am adding loft and I am all over the club face.

How do I start to fix this?

The weight of the shaft can often help. I find I have more control with heavier shafts.

Thanks for replying Erik.  I don't like to name names or speak for someone else but I went to Petes golf in LI NY and I am confident that they can get the right arrow, It is the Indian.   They want to adjust the shaft but I a releasing early which I know is me but I am literally all over the club face.   There is no new news there.  I am a draw/hook guy.

Since you went for a fitting recently... Did you have the clubface issue before the fitting? And did you get fit for a new set of clubs or your existing set?

I have been working on the clubface control issue with my driver, and I find it has a lot to do with my takeaway right arm extension at impact and club path. For me, it seems to be a combination of those things, but I'm still working on it too.

I was having issues, with GC2 and HMT it was easy to see.  They did not want to make wholesale changes thay swapped a shaft in one of my clubs for me to try.

Maybe just get a can of aerosol foot powder or a dry erase marker and work on it at the range?

Don't fix a thing.  Hitting the center of the face all the time wears the grooves out faster. :-D  Your clubs will last longer.

I spent a bunch of time practicing with face tape and foot powder until I got my contact position improved. Set up to the ball was my biggest issue.

You mentioned releasing early. You're probably releasing early so you can hit the ball. Releasing early is a symptom, not the problem. Find out why you're releasing early. Since you're hitting all over the club face it is probably causing problems with consistency in your game. The name of the game is consistently getting the ball to target, and that require consistent contact.

I'd get with a qualified PGA professional. Someone who uses slow motion video and has a GC2 and can help you accomplish this.

I completely agree with the suggestion here of getting instruction. If that is not possible at the time, you might consider using the Evolvr swing analysis service. It has really helped me with isolating a bunch of issues. My swing was a mess! I had (and have) the early release issue. My issue is a combination of club path, right elbow and left shoulder. My priority now is the left shoulder. But anyway... Golf is a more of a journey for me.

Maybe start with posting your swing in the MySwing thread. Just a thought.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
