Are caddies like airlines you pay based on how much the bag weighs?

Lol yes!! I am cheap to a fault...

Can we talk about how awful CBS's coverage on Sunday was? There were a few times where they would show 2 putts and then go to commercial. If Phil wasn't involved, I would have turned this off in a hurry.

Yeah I thought the commercial breaks were a bit out of control.

Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to spend it.  We also don't know what his current financial situation is.  Plus, given his recent lack of success at the time, he might have thought that what he had already earned would have to last him the rest of his life.

Well, maybe, but there are things you or I wouldn't put in our golf bags that go into the staff bags that only a pro would need to worry about -- for example, a spare pair of shoes in case of a spike issue.

I'm thinking now cost is perhaps what he's saying is the reason, but it could be some other reason, like the convenience or sponsorship or a combination.

Saturday at Pebble Beach might be the single worst golf broadcast of the year.  It's endless fluff interviews with the celebs, endless shots of the course and very little actual golf.  Hey, I love looking at Pebble as much as anyone, but I'd also like to see some golf played (and not by some anonymous 15-handicapper CEO).

I agree, the interviews were painful.  Gary Mule Deer is just painful to watch and listen to.  He tries hard to be funny but he's the only one that laughs at his jokes.  With all the celebrities that could be invited, I don't know how this guy keeps making the list.

I could not possibly agree with you guys more.  Except to add that Thursday and Friday aren't much better either.  There's a little more golf but still celeb interviews and what's worse is that there aren't even any A or B listers ... It's all D and F listers.

On Sunday at least they spare us the amateur/celeb nonsense but I agree that there are still way too many course shots/gushing and too many commercials as well.

Too bad because I love Pebble.

I'm trying to reconcile that with him using a carry bag instead of a staff bag to save on baggage expenses. I guess when you're not playing well, you gotta plan for the worst, hope for the best.

I think it was because he did not have a sponsor for his bag.

I don't think that will be a problem now. We will see at the next event.

Golf on tv watchers say this every year though it's hard to tell whether there's one extra minute of commercial content this year over last. If you look at Netflix streaming tv shows in the 70s/80s (no commercials), they're ~52 minutes long. Now, as few as 40 minutes. 12 minutes over ~4 decades, 3 minutes a decade, 18 seconds of extra commercial content a year. That's not sports, but it's an indicator.

Streaming devices are great to counter commercials. Hit the source button to switch away from the telecast, stream something, click source button to go back to golf and streaming content pauses.

Even watching a recording on a PVR is getting tiresome, you get thumb fatigue fast forwarding through the commercials, sometimes you fly past the commercial, rewind back. But FWP.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
