So… I've finally got my hands on some of the new Edel round putter grips made by PURE.

I loved the originals (made by Tacki-Mac) but they would get hard and dry out a little bit if you weren't using them too often (I think the oils in your hands helped keep them soft and moisturized).

Anyway…

The new grips are a little bit thicker. Many people might not even notice, but I've always been quite sensitive to these sorts of things (or swing weight, etc.) You can see how much thicker in the pictures, and the last one is versus a grip still in the plastic wrapper.

The new grips are a little bit firmer at first (though my original tacki-mac grips were quite soft, and the new one in these photos is similarly firm), and they weigh about 28-30g more than the tacki-mac. So, if you've had your putter fit for weight particularly in the heel, you may still want to order the tacki-mac grips they still sell.

I was between the 40 and 60g counterweight when I fit my putter, so I put the grip on without thinking too much about it. The putter head does feel a little bit lighter, but I don't suspect it will affect things too much. But… that said, my stroke is pretty stable across a wider range of weight profiles than a lot of people, and I was between two weights when I chose my putter and opted for the lighter one. Plus, my putter is a variable-weight putter, so I can always make the head heavier. You may want to think twice about putting a heavier grip on your putter.

That said, I am very, very happy. I don't know that I'll have to change this grip out for five, six, ten years.

P.S. https://edelgolf.com/collections/grips - That page doesn't list the new grips, but they cost the same $10 as the tacki-mac one. You could probably just specify that you want the NEW PURE GRIPS in your order notes or something.

My first impressions are that I really like it. I thought the original Edel grip was slightly too thin. This grips has a great feel to it. I do think it dulls the feedback off the putter head compared the original Edel grip. Yea, I think I will like this grip a lot.

Update,

The more I putt with this grip the more I like it. I do think it makes my putter feel a tad bit lighter. Though I don't think it will bother me much. I just like wider grip. It feels more stable for me.

Good stuff right there. My Edel round grip is over four years old now, so I could use a change. Still works like a charm though ;-) haha.

That said, I'm fearing ruining the putter somehow making this change... I'm sure I'm dumb enough to figure out a way to do it.

Oh sweet!! I am not actually a fan of my original round Edel grip. It feels...weird. This one looks NOICE.

    • Those are the cookies you eat when the other good ones are gone. We have a supposed recipe for Mrs Fields Chocolate Chip cookies. They are fantastic. My Uncle actually worked for Mrs Fields and we showed it to him. He said it was very close. The secret is a small amount of oatmeal powder added and the balance of white and dark brown sugar, baking soda and powder.
    • Eh. The forces and torques in even the most "toe hang" putter is incredibly small. Overcome simply by lifting the club off the ground, which is why the Revealer needs to be so well aligned and smooth. Plus all that's said in the thread about how the Revealer isn't even possibly genuine. I'm generally against shitty science.
    • Hmm... Somehow I missed or forgot about that thread. This is a pretty good read. Interesting indeed.
    • Quite a few LAB putters in our league and must have hit 50 odd putts with two design variations this summer at the practice green. Also spent 30 minutes at GG messing around with it few weekends ago. My two cents: It is disingenuous to say zero torque putters are totally placebo. Dynamically balanced lie-angle has some merit. Take a few strokes and you will quickly realize there is zero heel or toe drag  (as advertised) due to the putter head's own MOI. That's not nothing. It seems to reduce rotational hand manipulation (twist torque) to keep face square. YMMV but again, that's not nothing. Of course there is still gear effect due to off-center strikes but they are not claiming to cure that.  The jury on the forward leaning grip is out but I certainly like the feel. Impact with slightly rising hands seems natural. I'm not in love with it but then I have never been in love with anything about putting. The funny look is a bit off putting but I'm considering it.  @ChetlovesMer, we use only a fraction of our power in a putting stroke and when either heel or toe lags dynamically you counter it dynamically with ever so slight more  twist 'power', which adds a degree of variability.  IMHO nothing beats an actual trial to find out for yourself.
