Anyone read the Bob Parsons (GoDaddy and PGX Clubs) interview in the new Golf Digest magazine with Paige Spirinac on the Cover?

Very interesting read but check out the Sweat Game he plays.

Every hole is worth a point and the bet can be doubled at any point during the game, if you don't take the bet you automatically lose the hole.  If you take the bet you get 1/2 a stroke.  And every shot can be doubled until hole is over (with 1/2 strokes always going to the person accepting the double).

If any birdies are made, the next hole bet is doubled, an eagle is 4x and a hole in one 10x for the remaining holes.  He plays for $100/point.

Interesting Game.

I like the game but prefer $10 per point versus $100, would definitely get you used to pressure golf.

Yeah, just make it a dollar a point, or a dime a point…

If any birdies are made, the next hole bet is doubled, an eagle is 4x and a hole in one 10x for the remaining holes.  He plays for $100/point.

Let's walk through a scenario.  We will use two players of equal handicap indexes at 14.5 and $1 a point.

1st hole (Par 4) - Player A crushes a tee shot. 100 yards to hole. Player B is okay but 175 out.  If player A offers to double, Player B wins the hole if they tie (he gets 1/2 shot).  So let's say player A decides to not do anything.  Player B hits his approach in the bunker.  Player A hits his to 15 feet.  At that point it probably makes sense to offer a double.  Unless player B is unusually good from the bunker, Player A will win with a 2-putt par.  By offering the double, Player A eliminates the chance Player B gets lucky.  Unless Player B is foolishly over confident, he declines to double,  Player A wins a point.

2nd hole (par 4) - Player A yanks one OB.  Player B hits a decent one in play.  Player B offers to double, Player A declines.  Tied at a point a piece.

Am I missing any obvious strategy?

Of course if one is playing a "net" game, there is a strategy for holes where one's opponent gets a stroke versus ones he does not.

I would probably want to go $0.25 a point.  With the potential doubling, etc...so holes could get pricey.  I wouldn't want to lose more than $20.
