Yeah, not really much I can help you with.

Make sure the name is spelled properly.

Try to visit other HTTPS sites. Or other sports sites. Or other forums?

And check with your boss. But obviously, do so at your own peril.

I use to work for General Motors and they blocked quite a few sites that generated heavy traffic in addition to most non-work related sites.

We had different access for the wi-fi than the wired network.   Did you check the company wi-fi?

My work blocked basically everything except the home page of yahoo.. Yeah, when you click on the articles it blocks them out.

I will never open a ticket requesting they unblock anything because it's work, so I shouldn't complain.  My productivity has gone up IMO.

Do you get lunch?  I get an hour of unpaid lunch.  Why would me looking at Thesandtrap over my unpaid lunch cause me to be less productive?  If anything, taking my mind off of the stressful crap I do for an hour in the middle of my day makes me more productive.

I see what you are saying, but reality is that work isn't obligated to provide you entertainment on your "lunch break".

Anyway, I was talking about my self, if you want to open a ticket go ahead.  :)

Sorry, not buying it, seen too much in my many years in corporate America and read too many stats about lack of productivity in the American office owing to personal internet use.  You wouldn't want to open that ticket if I were your boss.

If my boss had half a brain, that jerk would block all websites that had nothing to do with work and disallow cell phone use. A lot more would get done in a day.

@mattm go outside and get some fresh air, work on the 5 swing keys... I don't know if the website anonymizers still work out there. You used to be able to go through a different anonymous address that redirected to the site you wanted to go to. You can check into that.

Oh man... Looks like we have some pretty old school thinkers here.

Ill leave you guys with a couple of points here, and then Im done with the topic.  First, I work in HR Central Office.  We monitor internet usage and know who is abusing the internet,  i.e. who is surfing the web during work hours.  Clearly, I am not doing that.  To answer the entertainment issue brought up...You could use that arguement but only if every site was blocked.  It becomes an issue of fairness when facebook which is way worse than this site and has thousands of employees visiti.g it a day is not blocked.

You work in HR. What is your company policy on internet usage?  I would start there before submitting a ticket. It's not old school thinking if a company seems that they don't want their employees visiting sites (they may want to do this from a control perspective as well to limit the amount of exposure they have from people visiting unsecure websites or bad websites that could put a virus on the network). The company doesn't owe it to you to provide you with access to websites on their property. I use my phone at work most times during lunch to look at websites.

I would go complain that facebook isn't blocked and then you will be the hero of your company when they block that also.

More than likely the IT's software is blocking behavior of websites and not just addreses.

I sometimes get warnings from Kaspersky that this sites SSL certificate isn't valid which could be the reason why your work place firewall is blocking the site.

Most businesses use a black list to identify domains and suffixes they don't want their employees to access rather than white list the ones they can.

If this site is black listed, it's either because of the SSL certificate or IT flagged it either as a site that was being "abused" or they are using heuristics to block sites that they don't believe would be work related based on content.

The Commonwealth's policy on internet usage is simple.  When you are on your nonpaid lunch etc... you can go on the internet and check the news, sports scores, pay bills, etc.  Clearly there are sites that are blocked like porn, craigslist, ebay.  They clearly do not want employees using sites that they could make money on using tax payer resources.

Having said that, Thesandtrap is non of those things.  Other golf forums aren't having issues, and as a matter of fact when a site is blocked it shows the user that a site has been blocked.

In addition, allowing employees access to the internet is something that is promoted.  The reason is, that when I'm on my lunch surfing the web I am still at my desk fielding issues and working as well.  The benefit is that I have a feeling that I'm not in a confined concrete work environment, and I feel as if I have a choice and chose to read some threads on a golf forum and provide guidance to field offices in addition.

I spoke with IT and it appears as if it might be an issue with the latest updates they made.
