This is the truth; however I do have an old putter which I will occasionally practice with and have even put in the bag as a direct threat to my playing putter.

First they are left "on the bench"

I do the same thing. I look at my bag as a team lineup. Under-performers go to the "bench", which is an old cart bag full of backup clubs from my first set. They are benched until they work their way back into the starting lineup. Tryouts occur at the range, where I may decide to swap some things around.

4-iron and mallet putter currently benched. Blade putter called up for duty this week.

You guys have it all wrong, speaking harsh words don't work, speaking loving supportive words won't work, tossing, benching, selling or giving your clubs away will not help. I have found that shame and only shame works.

When a club lets me down. I look for a older water logged ball from the water hazard. You know the ones that have been in the drink for so long they can never be cleaned again. If they are a little out of round from being "wedged" (see what I did there) between two rocks even better. I'll tell the club (quietly so my playing partners don't think me nuttso) that since it can not appreciate nice things like a nice NEW clean ball fresh from the sleeve then old dirty out of round balls are all it deserves.

This will usually fix the issue since the shame of watching the other clubs get new orbs to hit is can be almost to much to bear for the offending stick. One even tried to commit suicide by hanging itself but did it wrong and tied the noose at the grip end and it slipped off. Stupid club couldn't even hang itself right.

Golf is like being married to a beautiful woman that can cook, change a flat tire and never turns you down. But   just for fun she slaps you around in public.

In the back corner of my garage sits a tattered old bag filled with clubs serving out their life sentence for their transgressions. Putters mostly, but a few wedges and a couple drivers. I take my active bag back there for a day or two and after that time spent together my active clubs usually straighten up in short order. Think of it as Scared Straight, Golf edition!

First, 8 positives to 1 very bad negative work for my players.  My clubs simply don't understand that.  My 3 wood (War Bird) and 7 iron (Callaway) have been asked to show the way but the other clubs refuse to follow suit.  The putter which is a long putter, is the most rebellious.  I've tried to reassure my long putter that I'm using the Grandfather law for old geezers to continue using it although it still feels like I'm going back to the old Zebra Putter.  Anyway, for punishment, I let my new golfers, who have never golfed, use them during our open day for any players who might consider trying out for golf but who don't own clubs.  That typically makes them stand up and take notice.  Almost always they do better for a few days afterwards.

Coach (me) to player, "Hey, what percentage of putts left short never go in?"  Player, "Coach, 100% of putts left short never go in."  Coach (me), "Exactly."  Player, "Coach what percentage of putts that go long never go in."  LOL!

You guys got it all wrong.  It's not the clubs fault.  It's the game itself.

Golf is like a woman.  If you pay too much attention, they get bored and turn on you and for no reason your game goes south.  And just when you think you got it figured out, bam! it turns on you and your game goes south.  If you don't pay enough attention, bam! they get mad and extract revenge and your game goes south.

It's a no win situation.  Solution?  Take up fishing.  At least you can take a nice nap under a shady tree.

Try shaming your balls.

"YOU ARE WEAK YOU  pathetic piece of shit SRIXON". You call yourself a ball?

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.
