Hello

I've been playing regularly for 3 months, the prior two years were just driving ranges till I got over performance anxiety.   I'm still not very good but lately have spent a lot of time on a short 9 course that has defiantly helped my iron work.  I was still 20 strokes over on a 9 course but it's the short game with my wedge and putter that have the most opportunity for improvement.  I'm 41 and have a slight learning disability that challenges me at rembering the muscle memory for swings, form, and posture, so it takes tremendous amounts of practice just to make small improvements and have them stay with me. (Not that golf doesn't take a lot of practice) I hope to attend some clinics as I can afford.  My Clubs are a simple Wilson Set from Walmart for now but they do the job.  Thanks for having me and look forward to reading and learning here.

Cheers

Tom

Welcome to golf, and to TST.

You'll find a LOT of information here. My suggestion: take it slow, focus on one or two things at a time, at most, and enjoy discussing golf with your peers and pals.

Supposing the clubs are solid, don't worry about your equipment too much for the first year or so. Working on that swing is the thing.

The short courses are great places to learn. I still play mine once every week or two.

Tuesday, I had a productive day on Lewisville's 18 hole.  While moving to the back nine a couple gentlemen asked if I cared to join them.  I warned them of my ability and they told me no worries.  One gentleman had a 2007 - 2008 USGA tag on his bags.  I'm sorry I am unable to remember his name Today.  He gave me pointers on my drive and actually gave me small pointers as I went.   Thank you so much and if I see you again, I will defiantly make sure to write your name down.

These sheets do not count the penalties such as 3 lost balls to water, and 2 over the train tracks.

I will say I had one of my must productive days after receiving the tips, as I went for another round on the back nine by myself and no penalties.

Yesterday just felt like mechanics are starting to fall in place on a more regular basis.

Cheers

Correction: over the damn. ⬆️

Not the railroad tracks.

Also played the Executive 9 again last night.   I played with the same ball and didn't loose any like normal.

I technically played the course twice but we skipped over wholes and came back as there were children's clinics. I didn't score the last round and it was better than the card below.  Things were clicking and it was exciting.

Downside is, my set only has a pitching wedge and covering all the needs with the one club from sand, approaching, and lobing.  I'm finding extremely difficult so I'm now going to do the research to purchase a wedge set.

Thanks

Look forward to seeing you around! :-D

You should start a "My Swing" thread in the respective forum and we can keep track of your swing and follow your progress

Still playing, @Tom Sterner? A lot of people about to be jealous that you can play golf year-round… ;-)

As much as I can, I'm Freelance so I've been working events all this month but I did get 18 holes in 2 weeks ago in Chicago and a few hours on the 13th when I was home for 36 hrs.

When not working the busy meeting season, I average 6-8 hours a day on the range or on a course.   I will be back at lewisville 18 on the 29th once I land back in Dallas.

    • Okay, I'm genuinely curious about this "biodegradable leather" trend in golf. Are we talking snake oil here? I mean, golf balls, clubs... they all end up in the water eventually. Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather? I don't want to sacrifice distance for the planet, you know? Anyone with real-world experience with these eco-friendly golf goods? Spill the tea!
