12/31: 10minutes backswing at just-faster-than-slow speed. Focus on left wrist feel as it cocks and gets to arched (non-cupped). Also did slow downswings to keep the feel of the wrist through the pivot. Work in progress.

Six months straight of completed 5min challenge.

Well done. I've missed the previous few months by a post or two (sloppiness on my part in posting!). But....

For December 2016, I completed the "5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge.

Happy New Year, all.

20 min alt Sklz swing with 7 iron and driver. Hard to concentrate during session b/c wife insisted on interrupting. Had to run out to store in middle

Worked on inside out swing, but could not get turn working, felt like all arms today. seven iron routine may be encouraging less turn. To counteract, I took slower swings focusing on inside out and turn, especially with driver

with Sklz, could get some off and on feeling for pulling the club through

this completes month two--November was a partial month as I started during first week. December included practice every day unfortunately posted on wrong forum first two days and once the morning after.

progress:

• hand strength much improved,

• much greater swing awareness and flashes of "feeling the swing"

• set 2017 goals

Improve:

• hit and miss on whether practicing properly (hopefully not reinforcing the wrong swing!!!)

• translating practice swing to hitting real golf balls on range and course. Last time out, swing felt much better but still struggling with consistency

next steps in January

• complete 5 min challenge and post every day

• get instruction on Jan. 14 from golf pro Erika Larkin

• acquire almost golf balls to begin chipping practice

• have a very happy new year!

Truth be told, I've contemplated taking a break from it, but I've now committed to keeping it up in order to improve. It seems like an overwhelming commitment to doing it everyday, but then I remind myself that's it only 5-20mins out of my whole day.

Day 31. Last Day. I have completed this months practice challange.

Here I am on the practice green, putting again,  after getting an early phone call to golf with a buddy on a Saturday. My practice focus again, is always on the read, stance, alignment, ball position, and grip. Been doing this for 15 minutes as my partener is late. I will be kicking his butt for making me play on a Saturday.

I've enjoyed just having a place to "blog" notes on my detailed practice (to keep my swing thread uncluttered), and honestly the rigid "every day" thing isn't too critical for me. Although it's nice to hit a month!  If I back off, I'd likely do it in a way where I logged stuff here to stay in touch with others, but not necessarily obsess about missing days.

Like you say, it's not that hard, and I'm probably gonna make some swings anyway. Plus I'll probably log into TST anyway too, so then it's not that hard to post something- to remind myself to stay focused on my piece.

I hear @Fairway_CY may join us next month!

@woodzie264- just don't injure yourself. Hoping you're able to keep golf going with some of the issues I saw you write about elsewhere.

Thanks and ditto. Warm here on Tuesday, so I may actually play and not practice.

@iacas  I think its great that you offer an achievement for doing what we should be doing anyway. Ive completed the 5 minutes daily for December but I am gonna continue doing it forever. My score didnt reflect it today but practicing every day has helped me. It has set a good habit for the future and I think thats what its supposed to do , so thank you.

Did I forget to do something? @RandallT and @Patch also completed the challenge for Dec.

No, I missed things. Oh, I think when I merged his red post from the "Claim Your Achievements" thread it took me to the bottom of this thread, so I missed the red text posts above. Sorry. My bad.

Now it's @woodzie264, @CarlSpackler, @Patch, @RandallT, and @Strat-Pack Rick.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
