Went out Sunday morning at 7:55.  It was nice and sunny and around 72*. Must have rained late night as the course was a little wet.

Started out playing bogey golf but had a few doubles in the middle of the front 9.  Had 17 putts and only hit the first and last fairway.  Hole 9 is a par 4, 330 yards.  I smashed a drive down the middle that turned up being 10’ off the green.  Sure the course has some burnt areas and it is uphill and then downhill… this rolled out big time!  Now I can say I can drive it 300 yards!!! (LOL, kidding as I know I can’t hit it that far but it was the best drive I have ever hit!)  Of course I didn’t chip it good to take advantage and ended up with the only par for the front.  Tally up the scores and I shot a 46… not the best as I thought I might not break 90 today.

As we went to the back I figured oh well, can’t shoot in the 80’s all the time so have some fun.  I hit 5 fairways and stuck one par 3 tight.  16 putts on the back as I was playing bogey golf till the 14th as I pared that one and then 16, 17 and 18.  Tally it up over a beer at the end and I shot a 40 on the back for an 86!  My best round of the year so far!  I thought at the turn I was not going to break 90 but I did!  Again!

Finished up at 11:15… 3 hours and 10 mins for 18 on a Sunday!  That was sweet as I had plenty of time to get home and get my son ready for football.

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last 18 but man am I having fun this summer and shooting some good golf.  Hope everyone else got out, had some fun and shot some good scores.

Congrats!  Sometimes playing free and loose is the best way to shoot well!

Thanks.  It certainly worked on Sunday.  Sometimes playing like that can also get you way up there on the scorecard.

Well first round in about 7 weeks after an injury I was dealing with. Safe to say I might not be a bogey golfer again for awhile. Irons pushing to the right, driver slicing, and all short game pitches touch are gone. Real bummer because I was progressing really well before, and I have to work on this stuff again. Also gained weight too while in a cast as I couldnt bike to work/play golf/play hockey anymore so losing that weight might help me. Feel my whole ab area is just weak flubber.

Went out today and played a ridiculously quick 18 hole round (2 hours and 20 minutes) at a course I like to play every once in awhile just for a change of pace.  I hadn't touched a club for 9 days, so I really wanted to get out and play so I didn't lose all the gains I'd been making recently.

I played the back tees (72.9 / 127 / 6748) and struggled a little bit.

No warm-up at all and my opening tee shot went directly into the woods & out of bounds.  I ended up with a 50 on the front that included a birdie, a triple, a quad and a quintuple bogey.

The back wasn't a whole lot better, but I had some good holes... and then I had 5 doubles.  It all added up to a 47 on the back.

My 50 - 47 = 97 would be an ESC score of 92 for handicap purposes.

I just felt a little lost today.  A lot of things started right on me... others drifted right.  There was no consistency to my game and I'm going to have to get back out again a couple of times over the next few weeks to ensure I'm ready for the last 2 tournaments of the year.

Shot a 48/41 today for a bizarre 89. I had an awful front 9 despite generally striking the ball pretty well. My chipping was poor by recent standards and a had a couple of duffed drives barely making it past the Ladies tees.

I also really struggled with distance control on my wedges despite playing with my new Garmin GPS watch given to me for my birthday. A few times I thought I was all over the pin before seeing my ball carry way long. I guess when I was pacing my yardages before I've been consistently underestimating the distance. On the back 9 it improved a little, but I still found myself relying on lag putting. Thankfully I was deadly from within 6 feet today because I had a fair few testers from that kind of range for par/ bogey.

2nd round in 2 days since coming back from the 7 week injury. Things went better tonight, shaved 7 strokes off the +19 within a day which I loved. GG HI still crept up to 18.3 tho.

Basically going to need to get rid of the driver slice that crept in. Too many fading weak drives going only 200ish yards. Im not a big driver anyway but this round before my injury is what Im more around, straighter 220ish drives: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/cutchemist42/round/1037869

Also my irons have straight-push happening that actually so far have about 10-15 yards added to them above what I considered my yardages before the injury. Not sure if the straight-push is adding yards?

Short game touch was better, but still one bad hole chasing around the green. Greens were being aerated so reduced fare on the round, putting was a write-off for everyone in my group.

Hi everyone haven't been on in a while very busy and only started playing in last couple of months again. Moved house so at a new club for me with a championship course and a shorter track 6200 yds.

The shorter valley course comfortable at this length and can shoot sub 90 regular. This week though weather was great and due to lots of people playing went out on the 7093 yd beast. It was hard but fun. Shot 93. Front nine riddled with water as it heads out into the heart of a reed bed. Tightest fairways I've ever seen. Back nine then changes wide fairways lots of elevation changes.47/46 split but felt much more comfortable on the back nine. I'm doing everything competently but nothing spectacular. It's more that tee shot that drifts right or an under hit pitch or a slightly heavy iron.

Lack of play big part of that but no shot scares me now but like a bogey golfer it's hitting more clean shots as opposed to having to learn to hit shots. So close to playing really well but not quite managing it for a long enough stretch.

Shot 91 yesterday in a round that fluctuated between the sublime (for me) and the ridiculous.

I hit 6 pars and a birdie, with those numbers you should be looking at breaking 80 rather than 90!? Driving was somewhere near my best. I only had to play sideways the once. Irons, full swing wedges and putting were decent, but my chipping and pitching was just awful. If I didn't hit the green in regulation, I was going to double it.

I'd love to play a round where every facet of my game was just 'average'.

The latest HI is still below 16 and that's the good news.   The bad news is that I've been playing at high 14 and low 15 HI for a few months without any sign of making an improvement.   .

What's not working:

  • Driver is not working.   FIR went below 50% for the first time in years.   Got a few driver range session.   I think it may be time for another lesson.
  • Putting average went up by a 1/2 stroke.

What's working:

  • Despite FIR going way low, GIR went up.   It was the highest ever in my golf career.   Go figure.

Things got better for me yesterday.  I went out early and played a course I played earlier in the year where I typically shoot low-to-mid 90's.  Things just worked yesterday.  I hit 8 of 14 fairways and tied the lowest number of putts I've needed all year with 29.

I shot 43 - 42 = 85 which has my index trending to a 14.2 right now.  I made 2 birdies but had at least 5 real solid looks throughout the round.  I was very pleased with how I played and can honestly say I'm very much looking forward to getting to the end of the season and heading to Hilton Head in about 6 weeks.

I'm hoping to play again tomorrow morning before taking a week off or so from the course and just focus on some putting and short game practice.

Shot a nice 93 today, using some recent lessons from a golfer I befriended a few weeks back. Even had an eagle putt and a number of birdie putts. If I can just start converting those...

Like you, my driving was somewhere near my best today, missing just one fairway.   Recently, I have been struggling mightily with the driver and was glad that it's finally working.

If everything else was at my average today, I'd had a career round but I sucked at short game.   It led to a poor score.   The good news was that it was a practice round due to my course's going through an aerification.

Headed back out this morning to a course I haven't played before.  It was a par 72 that had been dropped to a par 70... and then cut down to only 17 holes, playing to a par 66 because of construction going on in the development.

Because #10 was closed off entirely, I took par plus my handicap stroke for a bogey there.  I didn't have it all with me today and struggled on some holes, but still managed to put together a 45 - 41 = 86.

The front side, I had 3 doubles, 3 bogeys and 3 pars.  I battled my putter all day and on the front, I missed putts from 7 feet, 7 feet, 6 feet and 5 feet.  All of them were putts that I should have made but I just wasn't seeing the breaks properly.

On the back, I played pretty well until the 17th hole where I made an ugly triple.  Again, putting hurt me a little on this side as I missed a par putt from 4 feet on the 13th hole and a double bogey putt from 7 feet on the 17th hole.

Overall, I'm not unhappy with my score... I just wish I could have made a few more putts.

This now puts me at 6 of my last 9 ESC scores being in the 80's, so it's becoming more consistent... and I'm finding that I'm losing WAY fewer balls than I had been earlier in the year (although some of that has been the result of some really fortunate bounces).

It was a pretty frustrating weekend from a golf standpoint.

My friends at the Kittyhawk pro shop informed me Friday that not only was my driver re-shafting not complete, it hasn't been started. So it was another weekend of banging around an ill-fitted replacement that I can't hit more than 30% of the time.

I trashed the scorecard by the sixth hole during Saturday's solo round. My only memories of it now mainly involved overgrown rough and Kittyhawk's infamous sandless bunkers. I never even started scoring on a quick 18-holes at the Par-3 course on Sunday, but ran the large numbers on Monday with my bruv at Miami Shores. Coughed up a 93 (49-44). On the other hand I got a new appreciation for the variety of different trees they have on the course.

If there is something to be said for this ordeal, I have found religion when it comes to the idea of fitting golf clubs.

Nice!  85 & 86.  Good scores.  That's like the summer I am having.

What a Saturday!  Shot my best round ever.  18 holes and done in 3 hours!

Went out in 44 with 1 birdie and 2 pars, 17 putts and 5 fairways.

Came back in 41 with 3 pars, 12 putts and 5 fairways.

Shot 85 for my lowest score.  I even tied my buddy I have been trying to beat for years.  He got me by one on the front and I got him by one on the back.  It was a great match.

Last 3 putts were 8’s with a foot or two of break… drained 2 of them, just missed the other one.

Ive had what I feel like is my b game every week now for 7 weeks in a row. Lots of good and some bad every round. A little more bad than when Im firing on all cylinders but every week Ive posted a sub 100 round for 10 weeks straight. Today shot 50+45 to break 100 at The trails of frisco for the first time ever. The slope I think from my tees is 124 but its just a course that tends to kick my @!!. So the 95 today was astonishing esp since I felt I only had my b game. Ill take it!!

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
