They news says they have someone in custody already, but didn't say if they got him dead or alive yet.  They mentioned that he was shot while trying to reload.

A shitty way to start 2017; ugh.  My thoughts with those travelers.

There is apparently another active shooter now. =\

The last report says that the reported second shooter is false. One shooter.

Another report say the shooter has been taken into custody with out any resistance. Says that once out of ammo, he tossed his 9mm on the floor, and then laid down waiting for police to show up.

He had the gun in checked baggage?

How did that get through the TSA Theater?

Isn't luggage pickup and drop off before TSA?

News said he just surrendered when confronted, which seems extremely unusual to me for these type of impersonal / 'statement' attacks.

Gun was in the checked luggage. But that stuff's supposed to be screened too IIRC. Someone missed it....my bad: "Unloaded firearms can be legally checked in baggage in a secure container, if declared, according to TSA regulations." He got the unloaded gun from his baggage, went to the bathroom and loaded it.

But he could have driven up from outside, gone in and shot a bunch of people too.

Doesn't that strike you as a little bizarre given the way these things usually go?

Can´t belive this stuff happen´s in usa so often. My country (Argentina) it´s a very unsecure country but this kind of things never happend. I don´t understand why whith this killings it´s still so easy to get a gun legaly in USA.

This gun appears to have been brought in from Alaska through Canada.

No not really. Although capable of killing others, he just didn't want to be shot, and killed himself. Self preservation is more normal than not. Of course this depends on if the media is reporting the actual facts. Lot of different info being reported last I read.

I'd be curious about statistics. My rough impression of spree type attacks is that the shooter is more than happy to confront law enforcement and is often counting on 'suicide by cop'.

They check checked bags. Particularly those with firearms.

...or at least running away. Laying down and waiting for law enforcement to arrive seems unusual.

Unfortunately, it's even easier and cheaper to get one illegally in the United States.

See this http://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/2017/01/06/senator-shooting-shows-need-repeal-gun-free-zones/96270796/

Chicago has some of our strictest gun laws (on par with the new for 2017 CA gun laws) and yet it's the place with the most homicides using guns. Los Angeles has over 2 million legal gun owners (6 million in the state) and obviously a lot more illegal gun owners and yet the homicide rate with guns combined with NYC is far less than in Chicago. So, criminals are less willing to break into peoples houses and randomly shoot up neighborhoods. They look for areas where they know people own less guns to commit their crimes.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/30/us/strict-chicago-gun-laws-cant-stem-fatal-shots.html

If we were in the middle of the last century when there were not that many options for manufacturing and purchasing firearms, I would be an advocate for gun control. That would make sense. The issue is anyone can make guns at this point. Criminals can get them more readily for less money than law abiding citizens. When this happens, we get a situation like we have in Chicago where mostly criminals have guns.

The guns aren't the problem at this point, in fact it seems the opposite. Lack of legal gun ownership seems to give criminals free reign.

For those who seem to feel that this argument is "not true" as many of my friends seem to contend, I can only offer Occam's Razor. Criminals are not generally geniuses. They usually try to choose the easiest path to a successful crime. It's easier to rob/shoot/rape/'kill for no reason' someone you know doesn't have a gun than one with one.

It's too late for gun control for law abiding citizens. In fact, the phrase "gun control for law abiding citizens" doesn't really make a lot of sense. . .

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
