Playing in a Golf Channel Amateur event yesterday in Round Rock Texas, at Forest Creek Golf Club, aced the 17th hole (112 yds) with a 3-quarter nine iron!!! The ball landed 4 feet short and released, then hung on the lip for a long time before dropping!

We were the last group of the day and the Tournament Director and course Pro were standing behind the green waiting to pull the "closest to the pin" marker.

That was a first for me!!!

I can't top that but I had a bunker shot from about 140 yards to the green, so I took a soft 9 iron because it was out of the bunker, and my 9 iron goes 150. It was going straight for the pin and landed about 2 feet away. I was really surprised because usually I suck out of bunkers lol.

Ive got two from last round.

Playing with some friends just messing around and we pulled up to a par three, about 150 yards. Friend of mine asked me what I was using then said, he thought he could do it with an PW and challenged me to what we call a Pitching Wedge Challenge haha. Well a friends little brother was playing with us and told us it was impossible so jokingly I said I could hit the green facing backwards. He didnt beleive me. So I lined up with my back facing the green, and the ball inline with my feet, put all I could on it and....hit the green. Missed my putt though, managed a par.

Earlier in the day while playing a par four, I had a bad drive, but made up for it, with my 3 wood, and landed off to the right of the green in what I think used to be a small bunker (think small crater). I thought I had rolled to the green so I grabbed my putter and headed to the ball, then I realized I was in the crater, and didnt feel like walkin back to the cart so I just putted from the old bunker, and sank it. Got me a birdy.

had a great sand save today... almost went in for par... tap in bogey instead...
basically it was a fried egg plugged into the side of the bunker with an ugly lip over the ball... kinda like a surfer in a tube... brought the wrong club but decided to use it anyways... pw... hammered it as hard as i could... ball flew almost straight up in the air catching the fringe and the slope rolling towards the hole... inches from going in
RUSS's avg drive - 230yrds and climbing

Par 3 174 yards. Go short and your in the water. Go left or right you are in the sand. Go long and forget about it.

I put the ball in the left trap. Deep bunker with the pin above me. Hit that sucker an inch from the hole. I was shocked to save par on that hole. I hate that hole. Well, sometimes i hate it :)

best shot for the week of April 12-18

My new Driver on #7, it went 200 yards and straight down the middle. If it can keep me out of that lake for the rest of the year it will be worth the $150 I paid for it.

Time was last year as a newb I couldn't find the fairway to save my chilblains. Just this last week, I was playing solo, with a foursome breathing down my neck and a narrow fairway ahead. The tips weren't marked with cones, but I was determined to get my $worth and play the holes long. Just drilled the driver right down the middle to within a bump and run from the green.
Sho'nuff I botched the bump and run. How possible (?) I don't know, but I'll take that drive. It's a part of my game that was missing for a long time, that finally seems to have come around.

After hooking my tee shot into the right rough at hole 7 at Woodmont Golf Club in Canton, Georgia, I was left with a 140-yard approach to the green, with a medium-sized tree in my way. I thought the sidehill lie would promote a left-to-right ball flight, but my 8-iron never turned over, leaving me a 40-yard pitch to the hole. I took out my gap wedge, and knocked it to within a foot to set up par.

Well I was on a par 5 today and nailed my drive. It left me a hard 3 wood which i had to cut around a tree and get up a slope and then stop it in 10 feet. Well i hit a beautiful high fade that ended up 6-7ft from the pin. While i was walking down the fairway the guy i was playing with(incredible pain most of the time) has to blurt out that he's done better. Im thinking WOW. Anyways i made the putt.

Yesterday on #1. A dogleg left, then it straightens out and the dogleg in the nmiddle is a stream that is a decent size. Pretty long hole too but I forget the yardage. I hit a 3 wood down the left side of the fairway and clipped a tree branch and it shot my ball backwards but still on the fairway and dead center. Wind at me, I decided to hit a 2 hybrid and the ball bounced off the rough to about 7 to 10 feet from the hole. Missed the birdie putt.

I had 230 yards in to a par 5, where I needed a good score. I decide to hit a little much club, so a three wood. I push it slightly, but hit it solidly. It hits a mound left of the green and bounces to 10 feet where I had an eagle putt. This was after a great drive. I missed the putt :P but best three wood of my life

491 yard par 5, 50 degree dogleg right. Hit a drive DEEP with a late fade that put me about 160 from the pin. Picked the wrong club into the wind for the approach (oh well...), but any time I can put myself in a good position to get on to put for eagle that was to qualify as the best shot of the day.

9th hole 367 yard par 4.

had a nice straight drive down the middle of the fairway, not a lot of distance on it (about 220 yards) but it put me right around the 150 marker. pulled the 7 iron out and put the ball 2 feet away from the pin for a nice easy birdie putt. definately a good way to end the front nine.

played the signature at west neck and the greens were ridiculously fast...
had a shot from 15 ft off the green... pin tucked back left in a bowl...
no way i could chip it anywhere near the hole without going off the back...
so i just putted the crap out of it...
cleared the rough stuff...
bounced down off the fringe and took a slight left turn...
rolled up the front slope of the green...
barely past the ridge in the middle of the green...
took a hard left over the ridge and picked up speed going into the bowl towards the hole... hit the flagstick and into the hole... nobody could believe it
RUSS's avg drive - 230yrds and climbing

The first tee is never easy, and I was flying solo in a group of 1 (joined up with two ahead later on).

But after so-so hitting at the range beforehand, I nailed the first drive which just surprised the heck out of me.

The surprise came because I've driven the ball fairly inaccurately at the range recently, but very well on the course, just by taking a little off.

For this old newbie that was 230-240, to within a 1/2 lob wedge of the green. The less said about what happened with the LW the better though.

I had two quite amazing shots this weekend. Both were on the 9th of a quick round I snuck in, a perfect way to end the day.

The hole is a 394 yd. par 4, slight dogleg right with an elevated green. I poked my tee shot about 280 yards out a bit right of the center of the fairway, but it took a nasty bounce to the right, leaving me with a pine tree in between my ball and the green. I figured I'd give it a chance instead of laying up about 30 yards from the green with my wedge.

Shot 1: From my lie described above, I hit a really nice fade around the pine tree with my PW. The ball stuck about 35 feet from the pin, which was fine with me. I figured I'd be happy with a two putt and a nice par to finish out the day, but then...

Shot 2: Drained the putt for birdie! I aimed about 4 feet above the hole to get it close, but it broke way more than I expected and dropped right into the hole.
