Couldn't agree more. After Rahm holed his eagle putt on 18, it seemed like CBS was far more interested in showing him signing autographs than televising the remaining golfers.

I get it, 1st place was wrapped up and that's where most of the intrigue is. But Finau still had a shot at an uncontested 2nd place finish, he was in the very last group (meaning no one else competing for TV time) and CBS couldn't be troubled to show him on 18 until he was hitting his 3rd shot.

yeah, i agree, i actually was waiting to see Finau's tee shot on 18 with the Shot Tracer

Two words........Fantasy Golf!

Swami! Once I was blind, but now I see!

And Blackjack Don mentioned product placement, there are also sponsorships to consider which may be more important. Notice how Nance and Faldo have those computers propped up in front them so the brand names show?

There's a local afternoon drive radio guy out of Cleveland that I listen to quite a bit. This is the "news radio" station, and they do traffic every 10 minutes. I heard him once comment, "Do you know why we do traffic every 10 minutes? Is it because we care about you motorists on the highway. No! It's because the station can sell a sponsorship!"

When I was a kid, major league baseball games were an hour and a half. Now, three hours is short, four hours is normal.

Those quick cuts are because we have short attention spans and need constant stimulus.

All designed to sell us more stuff!

Wellllllll! The very first Cleveland Indians game I attended was when I was a member of Cub Scout Pack 33 in Niles, Ohio. I'm now 64, so this gives you some idea of how long ago this was! We went to the train station and boarded a passenger car that was hauled by an honest to God steam powered locomotive. Shades of Sheldon Cooper!

That game, 9 innings, lasted about 3 hours.

But your point is well taken. I think what has suffered is the attention span of younger viewers, and pro sports' ability to get "impressions" for advertisers.

And if you think that telecasts are bad try listening to a radio broadcast of a game sometime! There is absolutely nothing that happens that is not sponsored! I seriously wonder how the announcers keep it all straight!

I just set my DVR to record and start watching an hour or two later than "live". Lets me jump through those commercials and filler stuff that I don't care to watch. Simple solution, if you don't mind time-shifting a bit. With all the commercials, it's funny how you can sometimes catch up to the "live" broadcast.

When the coverage flipped yesterday from Golf Channel to CBS it was a night/day difference in coverage.  GC was showing action all over the course and we never saw the commentators faces.  Flip to CBS and the first 15 mins of coverage was Phil's group playing #16 from the tee, walking down the hole, lining up putts and holing out.  Not one second of coverage from another hole or group.  Then a few mins of the commentators talking, following by a commercial break.  That's disgusting.  There's so much good golf being played out there during that time they need to flip around to different holes and stop allowing all this air time to Nick Faldo to show his face.  I love the guy and his commentary but I don't need to see them chatting it up during the prime time in the round.

I think this bit is about pleasing the target audience.  Golf Channel aims at golfers, and many of us avid golfers want to see as much golf as possible.  CBS, on the other hand, is trying to reach a much wider audience, and they're trying to do that by showing the "stars" (Phil) and the spectacle of the 16th hole.  The guy that plays golf twice a year is probably not interested in seeing Adam Hadwin or Mark Leishman, even if they're hitting tremendous shots, they want to see Phil and the drunken crowd on 16.  While they're showing all this, trying to attract and retain the "fringe viewer", they fill up the audio space with commentary, there's really nothing else they can do.
