I'm going to throw out a radical idea that may make heads explode. Ka-boom!

Make the Phoenix Open the fifth major. Right time of year, maybe a week after the Super Bowl. It's not like any of the others. It's the People's Championship and a true test of nerves.

Good time. I gotta go sometime.

That's a good one, but I'm not sure I get the punch line....tell it again

Did someone put(t) this forward as the 5th major earlier as well?

Yeah, me. I can defend my suggestion, but why bother? Golf is about tradition. It's not going to change for my benefit. It benefits my betters. If we were an English sport still, and we may be, then everyone knows what I mean. Golf is a class sport. I'm a working class guy. I make less than the median income in the US of $51,000. Every cent that I put into golf is a major commitment. Golf is not geared toward me, and never will be. I have to put up with that if I'm going to get maximum value for the money I spend on it. Sometimes I feel like I have to put up with a lot of shit to enjoy the sport as much as the upper middle class guy.

Why did I suggest it? Because golf does not appeal to the working class, and the working class is growing ever larger, as social mobility has tanked in the US, and pretty much everywhere else in the world. Should I do what the working class has done and leave golf to the wealthy? Like polo?

Or should I continue to make suggestions that might make golf more appealing to people like me? There are, no doubt, many here who will say they like golf the way it is, don't change it. But it's going to change. Everything changes. That's constant. So which way will golf go? Continue to reflect society and let it shrink, or try to bring in people who may be too rowdy in some cases?

Given some of the stories I've read, I wouldn't want golf to go that way. I don't want golf to be a frat party. I don't want people yelling during a player's backswing, like Hideki had to put up with. I don't want golf to become that American, as I heard some of the stuff that went on.

My intention was good. Mocking is fine. I can handle it. Not so much from my betters, but from my equals.

Best wishes. We probably shouldn't be put in a foursome together.

Wasn't mocking you pal, if it comes across in that fashion then apologies.

Was merely reiterating the already expressed emotion that this isn't really the type of affair that folk in the main would  want to be in the same bracket as a major.

The event seems great in a rock concert/festival style fashion but again, it's all about opinions. Again, if I wound you up then sorry.

Let's not abandon the foursome just yet Don, we can make a go of it :-D
