Hard to find used clubs(that aren't crazy expensive) with the aerotech steelfibers. Any graphite iron shafts that are similar? Are the aerotech's the only graphite ones that a pro uses?

Posted (edited)

I'll check my inventory, pretty sure I have the Aerotech Steel fiber (95g I believe though). You can have them if you'd like. I had another set of Ping S55's with the Aerotechs, great shaft.

Whoa, did @StefanUrkel just create a topic that is actually a legit golf discussion?!?

:-P (I kid)

I had no idea that any PGA Tour pros were using graphite shafts in their irons.  Aerotech is super-weird about the way they publicize this.  It was tough to find a list of who actually uses them.  And then:

https://aerotechgolfshafts.com/newsmedia/top-10-players-on-two-tours-finish-strong-with-steelfiber/

Quote

The 1998 winner of The Masters and The Open Championship played SteelFiber i110 graphite shafts in his irons and took sole possession of third-place at the Tucson Conquistadors Classic. He shot a strong 71-69-66 (206) and is now tied for second in the Charles Schwab Cup with 309 points. Meanwhile, the Swedish-born, 1999 LPGA Championship winner claimed a share of sixth-place at the JTBC Founders Cup, playing SteelFiber i95 graphite shafts in her irons. She shot 72-67-70-64 (273).

So bizarre - they go out of their way not to name the players.  Although I have no idea how old this post is.

I guess Kuchar uses them:

I think Ryan Moore was as well.

Wasn't it Kuchar and Sneds who use them?

If you want something close with better feel, then Recoil 95. Steelfibers launch fairly high, and Recoils a tad lower, which many appreciate. Also, Recoils play true to flex while Steelfibers in general play stiffer than the comparable flex.

Do you have any irons with aerotechs for sale? I'm guessing you are in Orlando too?

@StefanUrkel you should also look at UST Recoil 95's graphite shaft.  I tested the Aerotech Steel Fiber 95 and Recoils.  Both are great shafts and both shafts did help to contribute to ONE full club length in distance for me in my irons.

I ended up with the UST Recoil 95's because my fitter felt they would help dampen the vibration when hitting my irons better then Aerotech Steel Fiber.  I needed to switch away from steel shafts due to the fact my neck injury could not handle the pounding it was getting from them.  The pain was to the point of dropping golf completely or switching.

The Aerotech and Recoils are both played on the Tour.

I have Recoil 95s in 5 iron thru wedge and Recoil 110s in my 52 and 56 degree wedges.  I wish I had put the 110 in my PW as well.

I am very surprised at the feedback I do get with the Recoils, fabulous golf shafts.

There are a lot of nice graphite shafts for irons on the market today, they have come a very long way.

And for me - I now play golf with no pain, my handicap dropped from a peak of 15 early this year to a 7.4.  At a 15 I was playing in a lot of pain

Good luck in your search, sometimes the journey is more fun then the destination.

If you are looking at new irons Mizuno offers the UST Recoil 95 shafts without an upcharge.

I already offered the shafts...then he asked for irons with aerotechs. But yes, they were sold as left handed shafts. But I traded a carpenter's nail extender for them.:-P

Put right-handed grips on them and I doubt most people would notice any difference.

Callaway Preowned had several set of irons in both Apex CF16 and Apex Pro 16 which had either Aerotech SF 95 or Recoil 95/110 shafts.

eBay has a scattering of Titleist and TaylorMade irons with Aerotech shafts.

I play the Steel Fibers in my Apex CF16's.  I get tendonitis in my left (front) elbow and the fitter thought it would help.  I have hit balls all winter off a mat and played a lot of golf this year and my tendonitis did not flare up.  Was it the shafts?  No idea but I like the shafts.

I got this same info from both components sales people and a clubfitter.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
