My swing got screwed up over the last few years of not playing much golf and my irons kept getting shorter and shorter. My 7 iron went from 160 - 165 yrd club to a 130-135 yrd club. As I wasn't playing much I just accepted the distance loss and clubed up. I figured I better sort this out this year as I playing allot more golf. One lesson and I got my swing back and was knocking my 7 iron 160 yard + again. Infact out on the course with real balls I have been hitting a few 175 iron shots (not a good thing when the green is 155 yrd away and you club up as you don't trust your swing yet)

At any rate just wondering how far you hit your 7 iron?

I hit mine about 140, maybe a little more. It's really improved - 3 months ago, it was a 125 yard club for me. Two lessons to integrate my flexibility, combined with actually hitting a small draw and not wasting as much motion.

I'm pretty standard - about 150 give or take.

Funny I always think of 150 as about standard. I have the make up to a be a bigger hitter - 6' 195lbs, take lessons so my mechanics can be good. but once I get my swing figured out I plan to dial thing back down a bit so hit smooth 7 irons about 155.

I have this love affair with the the 7 iron. When I first took up golf all my lessons seemed to be with 7 irons, so I have hit on the range about 100 x more than any other club. I also have this strange hate on for 8 irons, as early on when I took up golf my 8 iron got knocked out of wack and was 3* flat and the loft was strong, I play 2* up so I could never hit that darn 8. I got clubs check one day and discoverd why that 8 iron gave me trouble< but ever since I still can't say I like 8 irons

A very consistent 140yd at 80%; I wish my 6i and 5i were as repeatable.

I absolutely love all my short irons in the bag everything from PW through to the 7 iron which is considered a mid iron but it feels like a short iron. It's always been 140-150 for me.
I'm pretty comfortable with all my irons they go up to a 3,but 7 downwards don't feel I will ever screw up contact. It's only an accuracy issue not a contact one.

Average 150-160 yards. 7i is the lowest club I feel very comfortable hitting into the green.

I hit my 9i 140-150... 8i in the 160s, so my 7i usually gets about 170s.

Ill hit mine 135 to just under 150, sometimes farther if i really hit it well. Sometimes at the range ill hit it farther, but when Im playing if I try to hit it more than 150 it turns into a terribly inaccurate shot ususally pushed to the left. Its the club I use on short par 3's. I wish i could hit all my irons farther, Im big and strong enough to. I'm 5'11", 200 lbs and in pretty good shape. The new irons I have now I think will help, but If i swing too hard I lose all control so a smoother swing is better than distance at any cost.

    • Day 16 - Hit the range and played 12 holes. Seeing results from Evolvr analysis, but it’ll take time to achieve consistency.
    • Wordle 1,080 4/6* 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟨🟩⬜⬜ 🟩⬜🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩   nice eagle @Clemsonfan
    • @Hardspoon and I will have to discuss it over for the next one. 😛    Just to give a short review of the courses.  NorthStar is a pretty good course. The condition is good. There was a couple of meh holes (#16 and #18 specifically). Nothing really stood out as amazing. Yea, probably like a 6/10.  Eaglesticks, I think from tee to green is really interesting. Some of the greens, more so pin positions were a bit crazy. Like, if you slightly missed you would have a putt that could not stop with in 15-Ft of the hole. Maybe a 5.5/10 something around there.  The Virtues, still good as ever. In really good condition. Being it is in a similar part of the state as Eaglesticks, it shares the same hilly terrain. Eaglesticks is more compact, so it might have more extreme slopes. While the Virtues is on a larger property and was more selective in where the holes were built. The green complexes at The Virtues seemed fairer than Eaglesticks. Still, I think a very good public course that can challenge you to hit a good tee shot. The approach shots are interesting. I still think I would recommend people make the trip to play if they haven't done so. Probably a 7/10.
    • Shot 77 at Eagle Sticks (Middle/ Blue) and 87 at Virtues (Middle/White). Not as sharp at Virtues and for me it was a much tougher course. Both courses were fun, in good shape and interesting. Virtues was clearly a notch or two higher in overall quality (former Longaberger Golf Club).
    • Well said @billchao. I echo those sentiments. Arcadia Bluffs in 2025?? 😉
