Hi guys and gals

I need a longer shaft/grip on my putter due to back problems making it hard to bend over for any length of time. Occasionally, I find my left (upper) hand is sometimes half-way off the end of the grip. I'm going to be installing a Super Stroke 2.0 XL, which is about 4 inches longer than the standard SS grip, but won't be pushing it fully down the shaft. I think I can add about 3 inches, which should do the trick. The grip itself is pretty firm/stiff. Do I need to extend the shaft, or will I be ok leaving several inches not in contact?

Jeez...put an extension on.  You will be extremely unhappy if you don't.  It won't feel right...the entire grip needs to be secure.  Plus...if u don't do it right and don't like it, u just blew $30 on a Superstroke grip unless someone has a tool to take it off and re-use it.

Hi guys

I've added the extension from a donor shaft, worked perfectly. However, putting the XL Superstroke grip on was not so good. Got about 1/2 way on and it just stopped. Luckily, I was able to twist and remove it without any damage. Anybody have a tip for installing this grip?

No idea what u messed up.  Just to review..

tape on the shaft as long as the grip is.

Pour solvent in the grip putting you thumb over each end so it doesn't leak out and swish it around good so it's all over the inside.

Pour the solvent out onto the grip tape and use your hand to make sure the grip tape is completely soaked.

Then put the grip on.  Maybe once it's half way down you can stand the club on the grip end and push it down

Again, maybe u did all that...who knows.  Just trying to help and not be condescending.  Hope it works!

When I'll pour the solvent onto the tape, I use a roller paint pan to collect excess and pour it back into my container.
Another good product is Mineral Spirits, or a good O'l paint thinner.

Thanks!  The only thing I didn't do was use my hand to make sure the tape was completely soaked, because I don't do that with my irons. I kind of had that thought afterwards.

Clubrat, I use the paint roller tray too!  Best idea .since sliced bread.

Let us know how u made out Al.  I've even taken the superstrokes off and reused them.  It's a workout though!

I pop them off with the air tool, twist and pull and they come off with minimal effort.
Also, if they get stuck going on, the air tool will make it easier to install all the way on.

I use the air tool which is supplied with Pure Grips.

I've never used air, still tape and solvent.  I should probably try it but I don't regrip a lot.

It works well even with Tape & Solvent. I use it now regularly when I re-grip everything.
I really like the feature of removing grips which I want to save.
I've had a few split open, my bad, was in a rush and didn't have the PVC pipe to keep the grip from expanding.
It's a slick setup once you get the hang of it.
I can now pop grips off faster than cutting the off.

FYI, I'm sure your aware, Pure grips do not require tape and solvent, which I have on my clubs.

A little off-topic, but does anyone have a trick for getting the flat part of the putter grip parallel to the face of the putter?

Yes.  Lay the putter on a flat surface.  Rest the face on anything greater than the offset.  Use a credit card to align the grip.  If the flat part of the grip is 90 degrees to the surface; the face is 90 degrees to the flat part.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

Lay a metal yard stick, or  something similar on the putter face length wise along the shaft. Make sure what ever you are using is not warped in any way. Then  match the grip flat side to the bottom of the yard stick, that matches the putter face.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
