Day 459 - April 1, 2021

Hit balls for an hour (which, for those who know me, know that's about 40 balls). Many were feeling something like this (though at the end I focused a bit on maintaining the elbow width):

Day 18.

Little bit of chipping practice.  Somewhat tired from last few days of combined golfing and yard work, so just taking it easy today.

About 5-10 minutes of chipping into a hula hoop target in the back yard.

Day 39.  This morning, I found time to get to a course and putt for 15 minutes.  Sadly, I had a mid-morning meeting scheduled, so I couldn't stay much longer ... which is too bad because I could have had a lot of it to myself for a while.  Notes to self!

Day 2 - Practiced Utley's Orange Whip Wedge drill without a ball (in house) then hit 10-15 yard chips with the Orange Whip Wedge, followed by hitting these shots with my 56* Eye-2 (Glide 3.0; I also have an Eye-2 XG which I had reshafted like my Glide version) outside.  I am getting a good feel for controlling these short chips with a sand wedge.

Day 173: Took a break from the priority piece drill and worked on center face contact with a dry erase marker. Worked from 8 iron to driver with full swings then 3/4 swing with 9, PW and GW. Took photos of each. Did 5 balls per club.

Day 86 (2 Apr 21) - purposed swinging with lefty clubs.  Focus on loading and unloading of right and left sides.  This is not easy by any means, but a good way to develop the "feel" for weight shift needed for good swing speed.

Day 40.  At my lunch break, went out to the nearby course and putted for 30 minutes.  4' - 15' putts with a few 30' thrown in.  I worked primarily on speed with some reading built-in.  It was less crowded than usual, but once I got there, I forgot all about what drills there are for longer putts or for those skills.  I will have to refresh my memory...

Day 19.

On the course day.  Played 9, so that was part of it.  But slow in front and open behind so lots of time to kill near the greens.  Got a lot of bunker practice today; good to start  getting the feeling back for those shots.  And some misc short game work while I waited.

Day 3 (4/3/21) -  A few weeks ago, I picked up a Ping Eye-2 XG sand wedge on eBay in really good condition and for a good price, which, as of today, has been reshafted with a Recoil 80 shaft  like the rest of my irons. Picked it up this morning at Spargo Golf, then hit a small bucket at the range, as follows:

  1. Partial wedge shots with the Eye-2 XG and set (G710) gap wedge. The partials with the Eye-2 are 30-yards for a 7:30 swing and 45 yards for a 9:00 swing (yardages are approximates and hitting range balls), which is pretty similar to my Glide 3.0 Eye-2. I worked on 9:00 swings for the gap wedge which went about 70 yards
  2. Punch shots with my 4 Utility iron; got a good feel for a shot which goes 3-4 feet in the air and travels about 50 yards total. My recovery shots have been poor and really need the work.
  3. Drivers - The last few which I hit had a nice draw and good trajectory; mainly because I swung with good tempo....need to focus on TEMPO.

Before I stopped playing in 2009, I hit the older Eye-2 models and had a great deal of confidence in them out of the bunker (both SW and LW), so I'm exited about seeing what the XG and do out of sand.

Day 174: Went to the range to collect some MEVO data but it was 38F! So I worked on setup and center-face contact again through the bag. I also did a few balls from divots, front and back of divot, to get that down.  Finished with sand and short game work.

Day 87 (3 Apr 21) - chipping drills with the 8i.  Set up to chip from various distances to the same target point.  Later added the putter to putt in from 10’ or closer, definitely putting on yard grass is not putting green grass...

Day 474:

Did some lethargic practicing today. Covid-19 day 3, 4, 5 drills, and then some full swings with an 8-iron, working on priority piece. A little bit of yardstick "bead" putting drill too, for 5-10 minutes.

Day 41.  Before my round, at a different course entirely, I did putting practice for 30 minutes.  Then I drove to the course and remembered I wasn't playing an L.A. City course, so the putting green was open.  I spent an hour warming up (two dozen range balls, plus more putting).  I played well enough (shot 90 on the nose;  not great for me, but better than a lot of my recent rounds) today.  Unfortunately, GameGolf is being stupid so I don't know how well I did.
