Day 467 - April 9, 2021

Played nine holes. Played decent. Front nine at Whispering Woods. Had only a pitching wedge into the first hole… 🙂

Added a birdie to my tally.

Day 93 (9 Apr 21) - Played 18 at my local course - shot pretty decent for me, i.e. a 93.  Wedge practice in the yard paid off as I was confident behind the club(s) leading to getting up and down on a number of holes where I was left with putts in the 1' - 10' range, most being 6' or less.  Yes that is quite a spread but it is a vast improvement over what I was doing this time last year.  Also had a near "eagle-2" on a par 4 today (ball stopped about 6" short of the hole) - a first ever for me.  That was sweet to have a tap-in birdie.  While I had 36 putts on 18 holes there were a number of 3 putts, effectively countered by an equal number of 1 putts.

Day 47.  Putting on a ruler on the floor.  I set up well and hit and kept rolling them right off the other end of the ruler.  I lost count, but it was at least five minutes and I don't think any deviated.  This wasn't the practice I needed, but due to a circumstance, it was the practice I could do, and that's better than no practice at all.

Day 10 (4/10/21) - Practiced chipping motion with the Orange Whip Wedge; about 30 balls to a 10-yard target. Then hit chips same distance with my Glide 3.0 Eye-2 56* wedge.  Reading Utley's chapter on chipping today.

Day 94 (10 Apr 21) - Played 36 today, flew solo, so there was plenty opportunity to work with club selection, shot types...big focus was approach shots, esp from 150yds in. Worked on approach shot scenarios - based on distance out, and what club combo would work best.  Good day of field application of the LSR guiding principles....

Day 48.  Ruler and floor putting again.  As with last time, this was because it's what I can do in my circumstance, not because it's what's best for my game.  But I have seen my efforts at following through my putting stroke paying off with straight putt after straight putt (also evidence towards my hypothesis that my fault in putting is read and speed, not bead)

Day 481:

Played 18 today. Absolute trainwreck of a round, I think I lost more balls on the front 9 than I have in the last two months. But I did chip in twice (for par though).

Day 49.  Got back home after the Masters so I can do the practice I need to do!  I hit 20 chip shots, off a mat, into a net, real balls, indoors, with a 56.  I was focusing on setup and contact.

Day 184: Didn’t intend to play today, but when I got to the course, it was empty. Hit some balls working on center-face contact and the course was still empty. So I played 18 solo. It was quite windy and seeming making all the long holes longer. Shot an 84, but can’t post solo rounds. Finally saw someone on 10 when I was finished.

I went back to my car and noticed the basket of balls I left was still there along with an alignment stick I left behind. So I hit a few more to get the ‘swing out from the top feel’ back down. Playing tomorrow morning again.

    • Brutal! Get well soon, Vishal. Good to hear it's feeling strong and stable.
    • Could have been but not for sure. Felt a slight knee 'click' during a ski run down the slope in late December but didn't think much of it at that time. Didn't feel right for a few weeks so went to the doctor, got an MRI in late Jan, which revealed the damage. Seems like a cocktail of ligament/cartilage possible long term degeneration and some new tears. Throw in some tibial over-calcification for garnish. Interestingly there was never much pain/swelling, etc for anything catastrophic. Just didn't feel 100% stable with some bone clicking doing couple of mundane things.  I'm feeling pretty strong and stable now but docs order to not test the knee for a while while I'm doing some PT. Have some major travel coming up in March so will get another MRI in April to reassess further treatment if required. In the least have some interesting times ahead of me.
    • Dang! You didn't share that info. Soccer?
    • Checking in. Haven't posted in a while since haven't done much this year and not sure I will for a while. Nursing partially torn ACL and meniscus on the left knee since late December and trying my best to avoid surgery for now. May not be any golf for me for a bit. Of course, I did pick a good time to get benched.
