Day 15 (9/7/21) - Range work today: (i) practiced pitch motion shots (Day-7) with 58*, 54*, UW and PW, (ii) hit approach wedge shots (9:00 swing) with the same clubs noticing the difference in trajectory and distance, (iii) hit 5-wood; this club has turned into a hook machine off the tee so I worked with slight alterations in ball position and stance until I hit several in a row solid, though slightly pushed.

Then to the putting green where I worked on the "chitch"/"pip" shot (putt-chip) with 7-9 and then dropped balls in various lies in the rough and tried different shots.

Day 316: Played solo 18 this morning. Short game was excellent and driving was better with some long ones for me. I putted really well too. Focused on the backswing and relax at the top feel.

Day 72 (07 Sep 21) - Played 18 today at one of my favorite local courses.  Good day of working on course management as I had to work from the rough and even a fairway bunker.  Also worked on completing the swing, as I have battled lack of rotation and getting weight forward as the body wants to protect the lead "no toes" foot.  Ball striking was much more consistent across the board.  Good day of working on the game from the course perspective.

Day 4

Pitching (Sole or "Glide")

I dropped the club down a few times and then pitched a ball. I was only pitching the ball well about 1/2 the time after around 30 pitches into a net. I was striking with the leading edge on most of the mishits. I will continue pitching practice tomorrow.

Day 38:

Back to working on priority piece hitting balls. I'm not able to consistently execute the new motion at full speed during my rounds, so today I worked with short swings (no more than left arm parallel) at slow speed, really trying to feel the right shoulder move down and around my axis. Did this with about 30 balls with an 8-iron.

My practice has been running into darkness so I have not been able to film, but I think setting up the camera while going slow is going to be necessary soon.

In case it's relevant, I'm out of my house until Sunday, so my default-practice at home is off the table.  And I'm at a place without carpet for a few of these days.

I am not sure how I feel about counting this as practice, but it's something I've been neglecting and probably should be doing and have really been neglecting (especially with all the weight lifting I've been doing lately).  Anyway, day 193, tonight, I spent ten minutes doing some golf-related stretches (with a helpful large rubber band thing) from a sequence I got almost two years ago at a UGP event.  The primary two were a shoulder stretch (that I sometimes emulate with an iron) and one on my back to stretch out my hip (that I sometimes emulate with my push cart during a round).

If I'm not supposed to count something like exercise or stretching towards this, please let me know and I'll count today as a miss.  FWIW, my purpose in this is primarily towards my golf -- as opposed to when I do weightlifting or biking, which I hope help with my golf but that isn't alone at the top of motivating factors.

Day 73 (08 Sep 21) - 8i pitches and putts in the backyard today.  Working on rotation (getting the weight on the lead and off the rear foot) and accuracy of shot landing zone.  The putting portion was for those times when the ball is just off the green enough a putter won’t work, but an 8i with putter grip and stroke will.

Context:  I am helping a relative with a move.  Their new house is in a neighborhood that has a putting green somewhere in the open space.  No golf course on the property and this is not in someone's yard or even on an individual's land.  It's just an artificial turf putting green in the common area.  So of course I had to use it.

Day 194.  Putting on an artificial green for 15 minutes.  Worked on 6' and 30' putts, with a focus on line, setup, and tempo.

Day 39:

Practiced when it was too dark to record video, but did take out Mevo to get some basic ball flight info.

Shifted focus to backswing for today, just to give myself a break from downswing motion which I think will benefit from some camera work once I manage to practice while the sun is up.

Worked with 8-iron tonight. Started off with slow, chippy/pitchy swings, just short of left arm parallel. Felt like backswing was too much arm movement and not enough shoulder turn so worked on feeling the left shoulder be the “engine” of the takeaway, with it driving the club away from ball. Rehearsed this feel, along with downswing motion feel before hitting a ball, and then hit a ball. I paid attention to tempo, as I find I execute my new downswing motion better with a smooth and thoughtful tempo. Did this for about 20 balls with Mevo. Average launch angle with 8-iron was 18 degrees, so I think I’m delivering club okay (video will tell me for sure). Hope to get some daylight practice in before playing on Sunday.

Day 195.  Left fifteen minutes early to run an errand (compared to when I needed to leave) so I could hit up that putting green on my way out.  Same green as yesterday;  3' 6' and 30' this time.  I'm not sure if it's bad read, slope, or the artificial surface, but when I miss, I miss by a ton.  And I can just tap the ball to send it 6', even if it doesn't seem downhill.

I am not sure if this is a bad practice situation or if it's a very good one.

Day 40:

Started off working on priority piece with 7-iron but I was not focused and was practicing poorly.

Took an hour off to throw a nerf ball with the kids, and then started again.

Did COVID-19 day 5 drill for about 20 balls working in new downswing motion, and then 5 more balls with a full swing, but slow, thoughtfully, and deliberate.

    • Day 12: stole about 10 minutes in the garage, doing my drill with foam balls.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
