Day 5: 7/20/2022

Went to the range on lunch to hit about 40 balls. All with the driver.

Working on set up... Dang, my set up still feels weird. I'm used to leaning back away from the target during driver set up, I'm trying to set up more perpendicular to the ground when viewed from the Caddie View. Also trying to mimic my iron set up a bit more with the driver.

I'm also working on swing path (as always with driver), and face control. I guess its improving. I didn't have time to take video today. This dude wouldn't stop talking to me. Had to get back to work.

I have league tonight, so we shall see.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 136.  I hit three dozen balls today (at my indoor room).  The first two dozen were the full swing drill from an Evolvr lesson not too long ago, and then I hit a dozen slow (with plenty of rehearsals), although the last three were at game speed when I actually hit the ball.

This was after an FFG workout (not immediately after, of course).

Day 8:

Hit balls with 7-iron using Mevo+ to check ball flight so I can have a sense of what the ball is doing the majority of my swings, prior to my lesson tomorrow.

Also ordered The Stack, however I guess Matt Fitzpatrick's speed gain using the system and US Open win sold a bunch of these, so not shipping until October.

Day 265 - Did 9 to 3 with Impact preset drills (basically the Key#2 hips preset drill) at home today, using AlmostGOLF balls. Hit 20 or so balls over the course of about 20 minutes trying to ingrain the feeling of correct impact position.

Day 631: Played North Kingstown this am with the second group, 3 ladies, two of us walking. We played in 3 hours!!!! We kept up with the twosome in front of us. We heard one of them may have broken the course record of -7.

Not sure how many more of these sweat rounds I can do. I again drank 5 bottles and was completely drenched at the end. I had to wear rain gloves the whole round. Dew point was 73 when we teed off.

I did birdie the 9th and had a pretty good round. I was excellent out of the sand with 2/3 one putts. The sand was much better than in the past. One of the ladies said that the course got a new sand grooming machine. It was softer than it has been. Good news @Bob M!

Day 9:

Lesson before work this morning. Worked on getting depth in the backswing - I had substituted height for depth leading to some problems. In addition to getting depth, the feel for downswing with irons (worked with 7-iron and 4-iron) is trying to hit the ball 10 yards right. Also worked on driver - still lunging too much so I'm trying to exaggerate the Tommy Fleetwood head behind the ball move with driver, I need to fabricate some sort of PVC/pool noodle device to keep my head from getting in front of the ball.

Day 37 (21 Jul 22) - staying at the beach.  Grandson wanted to play local putt-putt course, we wound up playing two rounds (the missus, his dad and myself).  Know it wasn’t my regular putter, ball or real grass - still had a good time working on pace, reading the break(s), etc.

Day 6: 7/21/2022

Had league play last night. Hit some good some bad. Played the last 8 in only 4 over so that "feels" like improvement.

Today worked on set up and my priority pieces in the mirror. I think if I was going to critique my practice today I would say I can still go slower and take my time more. Mostly working on driver right now.

Day 7, 7/22/22:

Got a Covid-19 booster today. So, I always go to the range after any kind of shot in the arm.
At the range, I worked on my priority pieces with both driver and 6 iron.

Yoda will be happy to know I got some video and stills which I will put up on Coach Now.

The only sad thing was that the wind blew my bag over, which had my phone/camera holder thingie in it. It scratched up the case of my phone (but it's fine) the holder thingie didn't survive however. Now I need to get a new one.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
