Day 2

Did hip turn and weight shift practice without a club.

Put right foot against a wall. Shifted right and turned without touching the wall. Kept hit turn compact. Kept shoulder turn compact to where my eyes did not get shifted off a point on the ground.

Did reps of backswing turn. Add reps of weight shift left, loading lead leg. Add reps of unloading left leg. Add reps blending all together.

Day 16. Practiced on and off for about 8 hours today with Erik and Bill doing a GEARS session at Golf Evolution, then a followup practice for the priority pieces from that session in the morning. Then went to Whispering Woods in the afternoon and worked for about 2 hours on pitching methods from various lies and sand shots. Finished at the range and worked for about an hour on the full swing pieces.

Had pierogis for dinner. 😀

Day 204, May 23, 2023

Good day at the course today. Helped some guys with the short game (so, got to hit a few shots myself), then hit probably 50 to 60 balls with 7I, 9I, hybrid… and a few with a 3I… most of them slow, working on my stuff.

Day 34: Mirror work today. Worked on a feel for getting my collarbone to go down in the downswing. I think I may have landed on something - feeling like my lead elbow stays super straight.

Day 4:

Worked on main priority piece, which is getting arm and torso motion on downswing in better sync. My shoulders tend to start rotating before hands drop so working with a feel of hands moving down first and then turn. Lots of rehearsals between swings. Only hit 10 balls.

Day 57: May 23

Played 18 holes. After plenty of range practice with good results from fairway woods, I went into that round full of confidence. But after the first couple of holes (which had terrific tee shots), I got stuck in a rut of topped tee shot -> tee ball higher -> topped tee shot….which got very frustrating very quickly.
Part fixed the problem by teeing the ball up lower/correctly, but it was still in my head. Ended up using my driver to finish the round after encouragement from my playing partners…and proceeded to hit four great drives.

Lessons learnt:  trust what I’m doing and don’t lose heart. If I’ve been scoring well (and I had been in that round), use that to regain confidence. If I haven’t, then I’ve used up my bad shots and I’m about to hit a hot streak, so play with confidence.

    • I am fascinated by this article. Given so many are upset, I would love to see how the calculations changed for them. In the USA, it likely reduced handicaps, at least for me. In the UK it appears to inflate handicaps but not uniformly?

    • Day 12: stole about 10 minutes in the garage, doing my drill with foam balls.
    • Day 116 12-6 Still working on getting to lead side. Tonight I also tried some skill work with clubface awareness.  Hit foam balls.
    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
