What's sad is how long that *** got away with the sexual abuse.     Some how US Gymnastics and MSU need to sanctioned.  I don't see the difference between this and Penn State.   There were girls that told their coach and were discouraged from reporting it to authorities.

There is even one girl that was abuse by him that was still being billed by MSU!

Agreed.

Also, I am having a hard time understanding the parents that were in the room watching their daughters be abused, who didn't think anything was wrong. Were they so driven by the idea of their daughter going to the Olympics or something?

Those who knowingly turned a blind eye should be sanctioned or banned.

I didn't follow the case so I don't know the specifics, but the cynic in me says that probably happened on some level in some cases.

It specifically happened. Look at the NYT URL in the OP.

But that doesn't speak to the specifics or the parents' points of view. Did they allow it because it was something they needed to do to for advancement, or were they naive and didn't realize what was happening wasn't a medical procedure? I imagine that being in his position, he was able to use his prestige and expertise in ways to manipulate others that a "normal doctor" might not be able to do.

I can't answer that and I'm not sure I want to know, TBH. Those people all have to live with the consequences of what happened and it's sad.

This exactly!  How is it any different?  Lack of a big name like Paterno?

Yes, so potentially culpable in my book.

Not looking good for Michigan State. Given I don’t know the details of each reported incident against the football and basketball players. Yet, the same theme has come up. The women refuse to press charges and the players were not punished.

I don't think ESPN, the Michigan AG, NCAA and other authorities are going to let this rest.   The ESPN storyline is very damaging to the entire sports program.

Included in the report are six previously unreported incidents involving the football team. At least 16 Spartan football players have been accused of rape or physical violence since coach Mark Dantonio took over prior to the 2007 season.

The complaints against Tom Izzo's basketball program include the coaching staff. Travis Walton, a former player and, at the time, a student-assistant coach for the Spartans, was allowed to stay on staff after being charged in an incident in which he punched a woman at a local bar. The charge was reduced to littering.  Walton would later be named in an allegation of sexual assault of another student. According to the report, that incident was handled by the athletic department internally.  Also included in the report is a more detailed account of an alleged incident involving, at the time, basketball recruits Adreian Payne and Keith Appling. Carolyn Schaner accused them of raping her in a campus dorm after meeting them at orientation. Neither was suspended.

I hope this investigation keeps going because there had to be "enablers" all along the way! These people also need to be brought to justice!

The latest I heard is that people are calling for the entire board of trustees and John Engler (an alum) to step down.    I think there needs to be a clean sweep.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
