New to the site,  I am in Austin Texas.  I used to be on Ham and Eggs and Golf Info a ways back but now looking for a new place to discus this most wonderful and frustrating game.

I found this site by looking for some Paul Wilson reviews and goodness, there seems to be some push back from some people if you do not tout their swing methods or if your handicap is not in the plus range.  Hope that is not the case but I will give it a go.

You'd be surprised.   @iacas is all about the science.   You'll find almost all of the staunch opinions you perceive will be backed by some scientific study.     We're glad you've joined.   Don't be a stranger.   Post often, ask questions, challenge what you believe and join in the many thought provoking discussions.   The forum members are mostly friendly and warm and you won't find too many disparaging people.

Again, welcome.

Im new and I find TST really pretty cool...24/7/365 chance to chat it up with fellow hard core players is very cool since golf channel runs nonsense in the middle of the night...

...another newb here and I'm very impressed with the site.

OP, "pushback" is simply another's opinion which is pretty much the point of message boards.

Welcome to The Sand Trap. I think you’ll find that almost everyone on this site wants to talk golf and help each other get better. There are some posters that seem to over react when others don’t just agree with them no matter what they say. That is unfortunate.

My advice as a moderator is to be open minded, don’t read emotion in a post that is not there and remember that we are all here because we love golf.

Hey Boogie, I'm in Western MA and just joined Wyantenuck CC nearby in Egremont. Ever out this way or ever heard of it?

Thanks for the welcome.  I have already been digging in and finding some great info on the site.  Now all I need is this horrible rainy weather to break around here so I can go practice some of the tips I have picked up.  Patience is sometime not my virtue,

I live in NYC, but my in-laws live in Alford - I'm up there quite a bit. Usually play Egermont CC. Have heard good things about Wyantenuck.

I learned to play at Egremont CC starting in 1985 and was there for almost 20 years so I know it well. Frustrating management over the years and it's not nearly as well run these days from what I'm told.

Wyantenuck is very nice so I'm excited about the upcoming year. I've been mostly at Canaan CC the past decade.

In my experience with this site, handicap index is very rarely brought up or used as an argument (unless of course, that's the topic). I've found that most members and moderators consider content of a post to have much more weight than the index of the poster. As a high capper, that level of respect speaks volumes about the community.

Please see @boogielicious's post above. There's some good stuff in there that many of us should try to remember.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
