At left, a golfer hits into a screen at one of the more than 5,000 facilities in South Korea with Golfzon simulator

Golfzon has hit it big in South Korea, the Wall Street Journal reports. Golf screen cafes are as popular in Seoul as are Starbucks in the USA.

I’ll have to try it my next trip there.

I used one at the HK airport. Got a full round in less than 2 hours. Was not there two months ago though, kind of bummed.

There’s one in Causeway Bay, but haven’t been there in a year or so.

When I visit for work, we end up playing screen golf at night, and real courses during the day on weekends.

The screen golf is much cheaper (about 1/10 of the cost of playing actual course) and takes only about 2 to 2-1/2 hours to complete 18 holes for a foursome; hence, it appeals to a broader audience.  It is a lot of fun in the evenings or during cold winters.  But I haven't gotten use to putting and chipping.

I still prefer the real thing, but when it is really cold or when it's dark out, it beats sitting in front of a TV doing nothing.

So how do you even putt with these?

The one I occasionally play has it set up so that a 10' is a give me.   Anyway...you putt across the sensors, it's sort of iffy..

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of putting across the sensors.  Back in the day, I used a simulator that had a physical hole in front of the screen, with lettered plots placed all over the carpeting between the hitting mat and the screen.  The screen would tell you where to putt from and you would manually type in your number of putts.
