Why Don't More Clubs Paint The Holes?

To be honest, I don't want the hole to be more visible peripherally when I'm putting - it would just be a distraction.  I'm aiming at a spot on my line about a foot in front of the ball.  I use the hole to pick a line for the putt and to feel the distance, after which I never look at it.  I don't need a white rim for that.  

As far as expense, believe me, the typical public course will do anything that makes sense to shave even $25 per month off the bottom line.  If painting the hole costs anything at all, I don't see it happening on any course I play.  I really can't recall ever having played a course that does it, and I can't say that it was an issue.  My home course tried the plastic rings for a season, but as they broke or disappeared, they didn't replace them.  Nobody cared.

Thanks for the support. As far as I'm concerned, if you are seeing the cup in your "peripheral" vision, you are peeking a bit. Decide where the cup is when reading the putt. Then concentrate on the ball and the line you wish to stroke it on.

Dude, read what was written. You can "not peek" while being able to see a hole two or three feet away in your field of vision. Doesn't mean you're "peeking" or "cheating" or even looking it or giving it any of your attention. But it's in your field of vision.

We have now had the inside lip of the cups painted, on the weekends only, and I like it and so do all the member I spoke too.  Really helps you see the cup from away.  Doesn’t appear to be an issue with the maintenance guys, as they mov the cups every day.

And I suspect that if they stop doing it… few will notice. Particularly given that it's done only 2 out of 7 days.

I honestly can't think of a time I've played at a course with the holes painted. I'm not sure if that means I've never seen it or I didn't care enough about it for it to register in my head.

A lot probably won’t notice it one way or the other, but I like it when they do it, so I will politic for them to do it all of the time, since I’m on the greens committee.  😁
