I was just watching some coverage of the U.S. Open and noticed Phil practicing (pitching) with those soccer style/colored balls.  Are these helpful in seeing spin on roll out or are they just for fun?  Anyone using these?  They definitely catch your eye.

They're called Truvis balls, and they're the practice balls Callaway chose to supply this year.

Thanks.  It's the first I've seen them.

I play with them, I don't think the pattern really helps, I just like the way they look.

Maybe a nod to the World Cup?

I doubt it. They’re just pushing the Truvis stuff. They’re American flag themed for the U.S. Open.

Seriously? Where do you shop for balls, Bedrock CC? They've been around since the first release of the Chrome Soft. That's a Callaway golf ball, by the way. LOL.

Bedrock CC, Ha :-D. I haven't purchased any new golf balls in over 20 years.  I find way more than I lose. It's amazing how many folks play Pro V1's and don't carry a ball retriever. As for the soccer style balls are they just fun or does the pattern serve some aid?

They are meant to do a few things :

1) look bigger (optical illusion) , and inspire confidence

2) visually show spin

3) be outstanding, easy to identify

As above, I play the ball because I like it. I think the above benefits are either minimal or non-existent. There probably is a small value though in being able to identify your ball from your fellow players after playing a blind shot, because you can be more prepared mentally, although this would apply to any funky coloured ball.

I use the Truvis balls as well.  I like the way they look when rolling on the green and spinning on pitch shots.  Additionally, since not many others play them, there isn't much confusion as to whose ball is whose.

I really like the Chrome Soft golfballs and the way that the Truvis look is an added bonus.  I really can't tell any difference with how the Truvis look while rolling, but sitting on a tee, I think they look great.  I use any of the Chromesofts, I just wish I could keep them longer.

I hope your iron covers don't get lost digging around with your ball grabber...
