Need opinions on Charleston golf. We're going to The Masters, but flying in and out of Charleston, and staying there for a couple of days. Yes, I'm well aware of Kiawah, and all it has to offer. I'd LOVE to play the Ocean Course, but others in our group aren't so keen on paying their prices ($397 for Ocean/ $247 for all others). So, if someone wants to play golf in that area, but Kiawah is out of reach, where would you suggest?

Driver:  :titleist: TS2 10.5* 
3-Wood: :titleist: TS2 16.5*
Irons: :titleist: T300
Wedges: :vokey: SM7 58*
Putter:  :scotty_cameron: Phantom X 6 STR

Links at Stono Ferry is a good course. Patriot's Point is on Charleston Harbor, and has some beautiful views. The course is nothing special, but it is a fun course. All you want if it is windy. The three finishing holes are good. Charleston National is also a pretty good course.

There are alot of courses around Charleston for sure. The courses on Daniel island are really nice but can be expensive as well. Charleston National is nice also but I didn't get to hit my driver but once there. Stono ferry was kind of the same way for me as well. Of course Kiawah courses are nice. Can probably get a much better rate playing Oak Point course as it is not actually on Kiawah island. The courses on Seabrook island next to Kiawah are nice as well. Kind of depends on where you are staying exactly as courses like Kiawah can be a drive if your hotel isn't close. There are a ton of cheaper courses around the area as well if that's what your into like me lol.

Wow! That sounds like a great trip.  You're going to have a ball! That's about a three hour drive so it's very doable. I don't know how many rounds you're planning to get in while in Charleston but be sure to play Charleston National and the Links at Stono Ferry.  Both great courses and super fun!  If you're a member of a club your pro may be able to get you on the Country Club of Charleston. They're hosting the U.S. Women's Open this year so that may be tough but definitely worth a shot.

Hi, I just moved to Charleston working for the Air Force at JB Charleston....any recommendations of local courses would be great. I've played the course on the base (Wrenwoods) and it was a little beat up but nice to have right there for after work. Also would be nice to make some golf buddies in the local area to play with!

Wescott Plantation is a great course and reasonably priced.  I love Stono, just join their e-club for better tee times and specials.  Charleston National used to be great but when I played there 2 years ago, conditions were a bit rough.

Kiawah Ocean is spectacular...If you can handle mucho golf....Book the cheapest course for am play and replay Ocean at half price or less. Charleston National is a decent alternative.  Or better yet...Sell your tix and go play the Ocean a few times....Ha

Just moved here as well. No partners here. Not a stud but not a hacker. Looking to play with someone on some local courses I’m off most Wednesday’s and Sundays

Course on Isle of Palms has some beautiful holes.

If you are going to play The Ocean Course, bring your A game.

Hey man Sundays work for me! I live over in West Ashley and have mostly just played on the Air Base but I've compiled a decent list of local courses from Air Force guys and talking to locals at the driving range.

Hi. I’m considering a move to Charleston, SC and am trying to figure out where the local golfers are playing. I play one of five municipal courses where I live now on a weekly basis for under $40 so I’m looking for something in a similar price point. I’m not looking for the best courses, just something to get my weekly fix in. Any suggestions?

      Wow, a new season is upon us.  At this stage I have about 36 days of referee work scheduled, and I know I'll pick up a few more later in the season.  I have a couple of highlights, including two USGA qualifiers.  First is the US Senior Open at the Homestead, VA, second is for the US Senior Women's Open and Senior Amateur.  In just about two weeks I'll be co-chair for a college women's championship near Baltimore, a bit of a step up in responsibility.  The other highlight will be the Kenridge Invitational in Charlottesville, VA.  That one has had the same four officials for a few years, and I was specifically invited to take the spot of a retiring referee.  Apparently I'm doing something right. We had a difficult situation this past week at a junior event.  Two players approached me while walking off the 17th green.  They said they had noticed another player marking, lifting, and aligning his ball while it was on the fringe of the green, NOT on the green.  That's a 1-stroke penalty (Rule 9.4 for anyone who cares), and I told them to talk to the Player in order to make sure the score was recorded correctly.  Apparently that went fine, the Player realized he'd made a mistake, and accepted the Penalty gracefully.  His father, on the other hand, became irate, cursing at the two Players, cursing at the guy in charge of the competition, even cursing at the fathers of the two boys.  Not much anyone could to except to let him rant, but its sad to see.
