Dave and I have filmed six 5SK videos, and our other instructors will be filming some shortly as well.

Until then, here's a quick intro video.

#4 was a very helpful video. Can you give the website address and coupon code in print?

I can do you better: just copy the link in my signature that says "save 10%". That'll enter the pro code for you and show you 10% off pricing on everything there.

Erik, this video is great.  I know if I wanted to read carefully I could understand your original sketch, but this one spells it out quite clearly ... especially since you're able to show that "down the line" view.  As always, thanks for the learnin'!

Excellent video.  As a nerd, I love "super geeky" explanations.

You could also show that for the driver to only curve the same amount as the 8 iron (spin access tilt = 11 degrees), it would have to have a path angle much small than 5 degrees.  I see this as kind of my margin of error for club face control, as you stated.  The number would help, and terrify depending on how you look at it.

Erik,

For this drill, is it all about the club face angle at set up?  I have been working on this, but I think sometimes my body adjusts to the face direction subliminally.    I have been doing mostly half swings and trying not the look at the club head after set up.

Dave talks about the right index finger pressure point as part of the control too.  But I am having a bit of trouble keeping that sensation going during practice.  Any more tips?

The goal is purely about controlling the clubface angle at setup. I'll work on the root level two ways:

  1. Keep the same clubface angle at setup, but use my educated hands throughout the swing to change the impact conditions.
  2. Set up with the desired face angle and simply make a "normal" swing.

You can exaggerate #1 by having a friend call the shot like "left" or "right" during your backswing and if you mishit the shot or miss your target, you don't get a point. It's a really great drill for educating your hands.

Another way is to set up however you'd like, and just use the sticks to control start lines with the added requirement that the ball curve towards the target. This allows you to practice pull-draws and push-draws (controlled by your setup), etc. You may find that to fade the ball you can't reliably push-fade it, so you have to exaggerate some things and play a pull-fade to hit your goal and curve the ball towards the target.

In the video? That's just where a lot of players will sense the clubface - how rotated it is, where it's pointing, etc. If you don't feel it there, I don't know that I'd worry about it too much. This drill really lets you "educate your own hands" the way that works for you. It sets you on the path of self-discovery.
