I feel like I'm hitting down on the ball just fine, but ever since I started trying to hit a draw, I hit down on the turf before the ball far too often. I'm a stupid monkey but I can see that it's because the new angle of attack, I just can't seem to fix it, I'd say I hit the ground behind the ball about half the time with a draw. (sometimes just slightly).

What can I do to fix this. I noticed a quick fix might be to play the ball further back then I normally do, but that just looks and feels awkward to me.

Help!

@crim,

Do the weight forward drill with slower swings.  In your practice swing before a full shot, rehearse this motion slowly.

I think this is probably common.  It is much harder for me to not hit it fat as well when I try hard to come from the inside.  I think it is probably a case of not getting weight and hands forward enough.

Hips more open at impact, and belt buckle starting to point towards the sky, and getting that good extension in your left side at impact. Really helps shallow out the swing.

Awesome...thanks everyone!

@boogielicious, is the weight forward drill in one of the Keys videos?

@Crim

I found the drill where you squish half a nerf ball (or something like that) under your lead foot was one that really helped with weight shift.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

I owned a few of these. So I cut one in half, instant practice tool to step on for that drill. They are great for hitting indoors as well. I practice pitching indoors with them a lot. They bounce harmlessly off any wall with out leaving any marks.

An old fashion drill we use to use was, if your a righty, put 1 or 2 golf balls under the outside of your foot, so that your foot rests on the inside, which allows you to get more weight on your left side, and then you can do slow practice swings, and hit some balls to get the weight forward feeling. This would be something to do at the range in a pinch.

I would do as the others have suggested. Also, are you perhaps moving downward on your down swing..?  Key # 1 addresses that.

It only works for righties?

Huh..? It works for lefties too.............

Just messin' with ya. You specified for righties but then didn't specify that the balls go under your left foot which made it sound like it was only for righties.

Anywho...

That might be an ok "quick fix" on the course but it's not a good habit to get into. Check out those Key #2 drills and get that piece better.

Thanks all! I practiced the key #2 "wall drill" for over an hour today and I'm feeling a lot more confident...hit a lot more shots flush. I think tomorrow I'm getting on a course for the first time this year! Time to put this to the test!

When you are on the course and waiting to take your shot, practice the feeling in slow motion.  Remember your training Luke!

Another "quick fix" that might work for you is to focus on a spot a few inches in front of the ball instead of the ball itself.  This helped me a while back, and whenever I go out with people who only play once or twice a year, that's the only tip I give them.  Often times it makes a big difference.

But that doesn't get to the root of the problem.

freshman year of college i got into a weird groove where i'd hit some 100 yard shots fat. i started focusing on hitting the back of the ball, as opposed to where the ball touches the ground, if that makes sense. it basically just brought my point of focus forward and helped me hit them crisp. i still think about this today every once in a while

    • If you watch the video/s of ‘Tiger’s greatest shots’ it’s undeniably clear that Tiger is far superior than any golfer that’s ever played. The helicopter follow through shot from the bunker, the second at Pebble Beach where he cut the uphill corner and made it to the green and so many others. Jack simply could’ve never hit those shots.  Hell at the Skins Match around the  90’s with Jack, Tiger and Mark O’Meara Tiger hits a shot and Jack says, ‘ Man that kid can really hit that ball.’ O’Meara says ‘ He’s (22), he supposed to hit it like that.’ Jack then says, ‘ Well, we never hit it like that when we were that age .’ Tiger’s the GOAT. By far.

    • Why should SuperSpeed get 3x of Stack's profits? I get the part about SuperSpeed wanting damages sustained as a result of Stack, but I don't get why SuperSpeed feels that they're entitled to both Stack's profits and damages.   Does anyone know/think SuperSpeed actually has a case here?

Stack System’s marketing materials inflate apparent swing speed and distance gains through selective presentment of data without qualification that purported gains are not the result, in whole or part, of its training protocol and products. * Yes, I'm joking about abbreviating both "SS." SuperSpeed wants: A judgment that the Stack System has disseminated false and/or misleading information in violation of federal and Illinois law. The deletion of all false advertising distributed and recall of all packaging containing false advertising and a requirement that Stack System issue notices (written or otherwise) to that effect to all current distributors and retailers of its products and all distributors with whom Stack System has done business in the past eighteen months. Written confirmation within 30 days of an injunction detailing the manner and form in which Stack System has complied. An order that Stack System disseminate corrective advertising informing consumers, the trade, and the public of Stack System’s unlawful conduct. 3X all profits received by Stack System as a result of its unlawful actions. 3X all damages sustained by SuperSpeed (as a result of Stack System’s actions) The cost of the action All reasonable attorney fees All other relief to which SuperSpeed are entitled and such other or additional relief as just and proper. Oy.
