I'm just wondering if you have ever bought anyone single peice of equipment, that provided you with the most improvement?

May be a driver, a putter, a rangefinder...what was it and why?
It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

Range finder, for sure. If you're guessing distances based on yardage sticks and flag colors, then you're sure to pickup several strokes or better during the course of a round.

My GPS unit has made me 'feel' the most improved, but scores are not really reflective of this because the rest of my game has fallen apart. I am now hitting a lot more greens, but less fairways with driver and making less putts so scoring has stayed about the same or is slightly worse.

Two for me. One is my gps due to the confidence it gives you knowing you have the right club selection. With that though I'm now hitting more bunkers where before I tended to not use enough club and ended up short of the green and any greenside bunkers.

Which brings me to my Cleveland cg 12 wedge. I've always used a pw from the sand and adding this club to my bag has made a tremendous difference.

My irons. Mizuno MP-57's, lengthened a 1/2 inch and mid size grips. I got fitted and it was the best thing I've done to date equipment-wise for my game.

Just the irons themselves helped greatly with learning how to hit irons, to always accelerate through the ball. They're not blades but they will definitely let you when you don't hit them solid. Any deceleration through the swing and you know it immediately.

A big difference from my previous clubs, sort of game improvement type irons with deep cavities and lots of offset. In my opinion, if you play golf with any type of regularity, and desire to improve, you should not be using game improvement irons. They only hurt you. Just my opinion though.

I will say my 64. I now have alot of confidence from 65 yards and also short sided. I can pitch it close from any distance inside of 50 yards and with my 60 I would always go long or not spin enough.

It is amazing how much spin I can get from 20 yards. It makes me feel like a pro until I miss the putt.

My Mizuno MP-R 56 wedge with 13 degrees of bounce. I struggled getting out of bunkers so badly but this club has made me a decent bunker player.

Second place goes to my GPS which gives me confidence that I have the right club for the shot.

Everything in my bag is new and I have benefited from each addition but I'll have to go with my driver. I went from a 7.5° Callaway ERC Fusion to a 7.5° Ping G10. I am hitting so many more fairways with it due to it's forgiveness which is adding confidence.

Rangefinder for sure. I can't really say that is the only reason my scores have started to go down, but I know it is a big help. I am pretty good with the distance control on my irons, so knowing the exact distance, and not having to guess, is a big advantage. I find myself with much shorter putts than I used to. Still don't make many of them, but par is a real easy score to get when you are only 15 feet away as opposed to 35.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

The video camera. Its been around for eons, but the fact that it's so cheap, portable and easy to use. I can throw my run of the mill nothing special point and shoot in the bag with a tabletop tripod without thinking. It has a very functionable video camera that I can freeze and replay. Having that at my disposal at anytime really helped me.

I wonder how much of it is mental...

For instance, I 've never doubted my driver, in fact when I started to play it was my most comfortable stick, even on miss hits. The bad thing is that I just found out it's a fake....I'wonder if it will affect my game? It better not, otherwise, i'll be driving with my 3w.... NUTZZZ

I would say the Yes! Tracy II putter I purchased was the best purchase that lowered my score and made me a more efficient putter.

A GPS device is also up there as now I am very confident with my distances.

My Taylormade Rossa Monza Putter. It's 33" long. That 2" difference made all of the difference between 3-4 putts and now 1-2 putts. I'm getting so comfortable with outting now that I'm thinking about getting a blade putter... 33" of course.

    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
    • Of course there's not a simple or knowable answer here. But the whole Caitlin Clark phenomenon is a nice example IMO. Suddenly there was wall to wall media coverage and national attention and... the women's tournament got similar ratings to the men's and much higher ratings than the men in the final four. With every indication that there will be some portion of the uptick that remains going forward. And there's the whole element that Sue Bird brought up. That basketball needed a pretty enough white superstar guard. One who looks like the "cute little white girls" that describes most of the soccer USWNT that's been able to achieve much higher popularity than any version of women's basketball, which is dominated by black players and none of any race who could be described as little... I do think women's sports are in a good place to start taking off more though. It's really only in the coming 5-10 years that the majority of girls will start to come of age with post Title IX grandmothers (as in their grandmothers were allowed to be serious athletes). I don't follow men's or women's basketball much, but in golf for sure the women's tour has gotten much deeper over the past 20 years and only looks to keep going in that direction. I've heard the same about women's basketball. And the patriarchal attitudes that socialized girls out of sports and everyone out of women's sports fandom aren't gone but have def diminished.
    • Day 43. Working on weight shift and hand path into the net
    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
