I am interested to see if everyone picks a bag based on the clubs they play or functionality, colour, etc of the bag.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I got my Nike Saquatch Tour stand bag based on functionality. Its the only stand bag with a full 14-way divider. The pockets are well designed and offer plenty of room for anything I need. Color was an afterthought, and at the time, my only investment with Nike was a 4 year old driver which I've since replaced.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I plan on getting the callaway Stadium 14 bag. Lots of pockets and 14 slots. Water cooler on the side and its a cart bag, since I hardly ever walk a course.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

2 main things my bag needs.
1. Enough Pockets for Balls, Glove, Tee's, 3x5 notebook and wallet, keys ect.
2. A slot for a beverage and a cooler.

All i need for a good bag. I dont care about name, color or all the other hooplah. As you can see i own nothing Walter Hagen but boy do i love his bags.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I received my Monza Featherweight bag as a gift, but I would've chosen it anyway based on all 3 reasons you listed. A, It is really light and very comfortable, as I walk whenever possible, I enjoy the game so much more when I walk the course. I also love the big feet on the legs and the water bottle cooler sleeve is awesome, keeps my water or gatorade nice and cold and It's easy to reach quickly while I'm walking. B, I have Taylormade woods, and I hope to complete the set By Christmas. And C, the White, Red and Yellow color scheme is just plain sick. It is truly an awesome looking bag.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I chose the Sun Mountain cart bag because it has plenty of room and pockets, 14 individual club slots, and it fits perfectly on my Sun Mountain Speed cart since I enjoy walking the courses.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

Size. Unfortunately, walking isn't an option at most courses down here so I have the biggest damn staff bag I could find. Room for everything, including the kitchen sink.

I sure wouldn't want to carry that sucker though!

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

im not gonna lie, my bag has to be name brand and good looking. Then the amount of slots has to be more then 9. Who wants a bag that is ugly?

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I got my first bag to match my clubs (all Ping at the time) then it got on my nerves every time I pulled a club out another would come with it or sometimes they would not go back in the bag so brand loyalty went out the window.

So a new bag was in order, I carry and wanted a bag that had 14 way full length dividers so was kinda limited, I found the Nike SQ Tour Carry Stand Bag and it had the 14 way dividers I was looking for, as a bonus it is black and yellow so looks great and the features of this bag are just what you expect from Nike, loads of pockets, ball holder etc so was a happy man :)

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

The defining factor: Functionality and ergonomy.
I don't take any color, but find one that I like. Currently have an orange Ogio Grom, which I think looks great.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I picked mine based on functionality. My old bad didn't have enough full length dividers so the clubs always got tangled and it was hard to take them out and put them in. I couldn't get one with 14 full length dividers so I just bought the one with the most I could find. Ended up with a Taylormade bag and even though I'm not actually a fan or their stuff it just happened to be the best bag for me at the time.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

The search for the perfect bag..... long story for me.
I don't care too much for brand name or looks, but it should not be ugly.

It's all about functionality and ergonomy. I bought 4 bags, and none of them are perfect for me. First I wanted a 14-divider, but now I came to the conclusion, that I dont like it.

The best best bag so far is the Nike Pro Combo (aka SQ tour carry, that is a sturdy carry standbag with 14 dividers. It's a very good compromise between cart bag and carry bag)
But I dont like the 14 slot thing any more. So I need a different bag that fits on my clicgear 2.0, has lot of space for stuff, big waterproof compartments for the gadgets and lot of insulated space for water bottles. Maybe an Ogio. Lets see.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

Who wouldn't consider all three factors...
I want my bag to suit me... so I'm not buying anything pink or loud.
I want function... properly sized pockets, enough room, etc.
I have clubs from many manufacturers, so the name on the side isn't critical, but I wouldn't get a TM bag since I dislike most of their clubs.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I started playing again 1.5 yrs ago....I got a great stand bag on sale and then went about the business of updating my clubs....long process.

Anyway, in the process of doing this I started using oversized grips that began to tangle up and jam at times. The final straw was on one of my last rounds a club was jamming in the bag and I forced it in and it slammed down onto my left hand.....a bout of cussing and dirt kicking ensued.

I went online and asked around about opininions and read reviews. I wanted 14 full length dividers, plenty of pockets, an onboard cooler (so I don't have to spend $4.00 per drink at the turn), easy access putter well, soft lined pockets for glasses, plenty of handles..........all this and no more than ~8lbs.

The Sun Mountain C-130 was one strongly suggested bag. I bought one and absolutely love it. My son is happy because he took my stand bag.

I've got plenty of room for everything now. Perfect cart bag and works nicely with my push cart, too. Offered in a wide range of colors and many NCAA team styles, too (currently didnt' make one in my team, though). Customer service was spot on when I called with a couple of questions.

Good luck.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

i look at a few different things when choosing a bag:

1. must be functional - has to have enough pockets to seperatly fit: balls, tees, light jacket, pens-divot tool-ball markers, wallet-cell phone
2. must be a carry bag - I HATE, absolutely HATE riding - I walk 99% of the time, so I need a light comfortable bag w good dual straps and durable/strong legs.
3. good club managment system - I do NOT want individual club dividers, but a good system that keeps the clubs protected and easy to put in and out.
4. it must present a company i endorse/play - I would not use a bag w a company's logo that i do not use. Why....i dont know, just a stupid thing i have in my head! lol ;) Color isnt a HUGE factor, but still needs to look decent. I wanted the blue/white AeroLite III, but settled on the white/black/orange one, as it was the only one in stock.

I have spent over 6 hours of multiple trips choosing a bag. Went through 4 this year and finally found the prefect one for me. (see sig)

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

I really don't mind my bag only having 6 dividers. Sometimes the clubs stick, but not that often. I have it set up like this: top big divider: Driver,3 and 5 wood then the next 4 smaller ones go like this: 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8, and 9 and pw. Then I have my sw, putter, and soon to be lob wedge in the bottom big divider. It really doesn't matter to me as long as I don't have too many clubs in one divider. My dad's slazenger bag actually cost less than my tm one, but has 3 more dividers. I love my bag though, it's just so light and the foam carry straps just rock.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

My bag is awesome. It's Sun Mountain, but I don't know the model. Orange & White (colors of my high school team). It's so nice.

Re: How do you pick a golf bag?

Function first with style a consideration. Love my Callaway A.L.I.C.E bag. Digital camo with great functionality. Part of the cost of the bag went to "Bridies for the brave" charity. Has their logo on the bag also.
