Just wondering where you guys place your clubs in your bag. I am looking for some ideas. I have a stand bag if that makes a difference.

I put them in the slots in the top that are provided. I find they don't fit very well in the pockets my bag...JUST KIDDING.

I start at the top of my stand bag with Driver, 3 wood, hybrid and putter and then work my way down by threes to the wedges (two wedges in each of the two bottom holes). I see some people put their clubs in the reverse...never really understood that.

I now do like you say. I have four slots, so woods go in the top, middle right are short irons, middle left are long irons, bottom are wedges and putter. I used to do just the opposite (woods on bottom, wedges/putter on top) but this was damaging the wood shafts when the irons banged into them. The reason I did it that way to start was that it made it a bit easier to get the short clubs since I didn't have to reach under the longer clubs to find them.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

The upside down bag setup made no sense to me the first time I saw it. Short iron heads rubbing continuously on the long iron and wood shafts? Duh.

I recently got a new 14-club divider bag, but I set it up the same as I did in this pic of my old bag. Woods in top slot; long irons in middle left, short irons middle right, wedges in bottom slot. I build an "external" putter tube for my putter.

What I Play:

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

I keep my woods up top; then 3-8 irons; with the 9 iron, wedges, and putter on the bottom. Basically from longest club to shortest club (top to bottom). This way the heads are not hitting as much as they would if the setup was reversed.

Pretty much my set up. I will say my new 14 slot bag had me scratching my head at first. But your mind slowly becomes grooved into it just like your golf swing.

Good info guys. Thanks. eltreams, what did you make your putter tube out of? And how did you attach it to the bag?

I bought one of those plastic organizer tubes, cut to fit the length of the putter, tapped off the bottom, and used cable/zip ties to secure it to the towel ring and to the plastic part at the bottom of the bag. See pic below for an idea (not the best pic, sorry).

On my new bag, I secured the tube with a cable/zip tie to the loop that holds the umbrella tie on the top, and the loop the secures the umbrella to the bottom of the bag. So...the umbrella rests against the bag, and the putter tube rests agains the umbrella.

Personally, I love having the external putter tube. You use your putter every hole, and it's nice not to have the grip rubbing against the bag or other club grips and it's nice not having to move around clubs to access the putter.

I personally have a 14-hole divider bag, and used to place all the clubs just like most of you guys are doing, but I found that it got to be a pain in the ass to dig out the 6 or 7 or 8 irons that happened to be smack in the middle of the bag, and that meant digging around through all the clubs heads to get to them. Maybe I'm just lazy.

So, now I arrange them with the driver in the middle-top slot, and my woods going down the middle, vertically. Then the shorter irons are staggered, evens and odds on each side, in the perimeter slots. That way, it's easy to grab a wood, since they are longer in the middle, but the irons are along the outside, so no bangin' around.

The stuff in my bag (i.e. The clubs that I haven't tossed in the pond. Yet.):

Driver: G15
Fariway Woods: Fybrid 5
Irons: Big Bertha Fusion 3-PWWedges: Tom Watson 56 and 60Putter: IN Wack-e

Interesting idea. I might have to try that when I get home.

I have an OGIO Vaporlite Bag and it has the WOODE Club system, If you haven't seen one check it out. It has 4 slots down the right side of the bag for woods and hybrids and then a small section at the top w/ stand deployed for your putter, then 3 even slots down the left for long irons on top then middle irons w/ wedges on the bottom. I love the way the bag carries and when I set it down it, Ilove the way it presents the clubs to me. Check one out.

etlreams, Thanks for the idea on the putter tube. I am a plumber, so I used a piece of 1 1/2" PVC pipe with a cap on one end. I painted it black and zip tied it on. I cant imagine not having it now.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I, too, can't imagine not having the "external" putter tube. Good idea on the PVC. That will definately hold up better that the plastic divider tubes long term.

    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
    • Day 16: 12/26/2025 A little more mirror work today. Then out to the garage net.  The first part of my PPJ swing thought is really starting to stick. The J still takes some focus. Plus, I'm still putting a priority on getting all the way to my finish.
