Yesterday I was at the driving range with a friend. At the end of the range, there were 3 early 20 somethings sharing one spot. So a bigger guy steps up to the mat and takes a swing so hard that he literally spun himself around, fell over, and was in immense pain. As we were leaving, my buddy asked one of the employee's what happened and they said he dislocated his knee.

The person that was swinging the club was not a golfer, he had converse skate shoes on very lose, and was swinging for the fences.

So it begs the question, who here has seen an injury at the driving range.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Seen a driving range injury? I participated in one!

Back in 1999 the courses were pushing for everyone to dump metal spikes for soft spikes. I ended up with an early, soft rubber fix called nubbies .

A week later I was taking a golf lesson at the course range, working on my weight shift, hip turn and left side bracing. After about five full shots, my left foot gives way - nubbies won't hold on short grass. I do a standing split, severely pull my right groin muscle, and can't exercise at all for eight weeks. Goodbye golf season, and goodbye nubbies - I got some hard plastic spikes when I could play again.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Not sure how you dislocate a knee. Sounds like he tore a ligament of some kind. NOT GOOD!

Ouch! I read an article a while back at how much stress we put on that front knee. It's surprising this injury doesn't happen more often.

I heard a story about someone embedding a tee in their hand. The person was teeing it up with a cracked tee and it snapped, his hand continued downward and the shard got jammed into his hand.

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

Saw a guy take a weird slip walking down a hill in a tourney last year. He came back the second day with a knee brace and played a pretty ugly round. I asked his playing partner a week later how his knee doing and it turned out he tore his acl.

This happend last month. The parking lot at my course has a small hill between the sidewalk and the asphalt. I didn't even pay attention that I had already changed shoes. I had gym shoes on instead of cleats and rolled into the parking lot.

That's crazy. I can say that I have never seen someone hurt themselves at the range. I am actually kind of surprised we don't see more injuries at the range with some of the moves that are out there.

Not on the range, but I was playing behind an elderly couple a fews back, and the old dude shanked a ball right into his wifes eye. When I reached them her eyeball was basically hanging from its socket by a thread... lots of blood... called an ambulance and off she went.. I wiped her blood off my hands and finished my round... I mean it was only the secon hole.. I couldnt quit.

Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw my grandfather hit a line drive into his wife's back once. There was a group ahead of us that was in range for the men. So his wife decided she would go to the women's tee and hit. My grandfather is pretty focused and maybe did not have the best eye sight. He teed up when the rest of our group was not paying attention and ripped a drive into her back about 35 yards away. Pretty crazy. Luckily for her he was not a huge hitter and he did not hit her in the head thank god!!!

to the Mod's I just realized I put this in Golf equipment, could somebody please move it to Golf Talk.

Also, I don't really know who the mods are on this forum, so if somebody knows one that can do this, I don't think that the equipment forum is the appropriate place for this thread.

Sorry about that.

This is appropriate for any forum! On a side note, glad the wife didn't get hurt, but witnessing did it seem to happen in Slow Motion? I can only imagine my gramps, loading one up into his wife, he'd probably tell her she was standing in the wrong place... Great Stuff!

She was - you never hit first if you are closer to the hole (although I say this, I often times play down the left rough and my family and friends all being right handed play the right side of the fairway, and we generlaly play ready set golf (to keep pace)

I actually dislocated my shoulder hitting balls at the driving range in March of 2009. Admittedly, it was/is a recurring injury, but still pretty wacky. And painful. I was taping my swing when it happened, so I caught it on video, as well as me putting my shoulder back in. That was a fun day.
