= a course full of excruciatingly slow, ornery bastids. No thanks!

How "Wacky" could a senior get?

In reality it's probably more like "Wobbly Wednesday" or "Wonky Wednesday". Still, it's better than "Flatulent Fridays" or "Slow Play Sundays".

Just get the first tee time and get 3 other guys you can tolerate...

Unknowingly, I played early morning on a Tuesday about a month ago at one of my favorite courses in town. It turns out there is lady club 9-hole tournament every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Now I don't mind having ladies on the course, in fact I played with some of the nicest ladies (visually and/or golf experience wise ), but this lady's club played so slowly it drove me nuts. Our foursome played the front nine in 1:45 but then we got caught behind the lady's club. And it took us 3:15 to play the back nine! Talk about slow. Geez!!! Of course if they were good looking ladies we wouldn't have minded as much, but they were all old ladies who hit about 100 yd drives and whiff one or two shots in between. ARRRRGGGHHH

O man! See, people like that should be banned from a golf course. Call me sexist, but if someone can't play a round of golf under 4 1/2 hours, they have no business out there. Period. I hear from people a lot "they're just beginning, everyone was there one time, how do you expect them to learn?" It's not that hard to stand over a ball, decide what you're going to do, and make a swing. Especially at the beginning level, there is no difference in how long you take to prepare for a shot, it's going to be pretty close to the same result no matter what. I don't get ticked off by much on a golf course except for slow golf. All it takes is a little heads up to notice if the group ahead is disappearing and group behind is always right there. End rant.

I'll be 60 in November. What's your time in the three-mile run?

Also, I'm generally the one who has to wait when I'm paired with beginner youngbloods.

3+ hours for 9 holes? I would have walked off. I've only done it once, and it was because I was on about a 6 hour pace through 4 holes.

At my home course it is Thursdays that is old ladies day.

Nothing against these women on the weekends - then they are playing at pace and never a problem.

On Thursdays it is more of a social hour (all day event) than a golf round for them - it is the norm to see 12 women chatting at a tee box.

They start at 8:30 and I have caught them on the 12th tee when I have tee'd off at noon.

You are some kind of super-senior, there, fella. As for my time in the three mile run, it's moot as I would do it in a golf cart, but I'll spot you that you're faster.

Now back here in reality-land where I live, you get a bunch of old guys on the course for discounted play and it's going to be SLOW. Guaranteed.

I have 2 regular playing partners that are over 60, and they couldn't be more different. Both strike the ball very very well and still play from the white tees, and have little to no problem hitting 220-240 yard drives. Where it differs is in pace of play. If I play with one, it's guaranteed to be a 5 hour round. He just doesn't do anything fast. The other is the fastest player I've seen in my life. He gets out of the cart, grabs a club, steps up and hits the ball. No practice swing, ever, and I think sometimes he doesn't even ground the club, that's how fast he plays. And he always shoots right around 80.

Two of my regular playing partners are the same - one guy does everything without delay and the other guy is always either telling a story or a verbalizing his swing thoughts. When the second guy is on the tee he always steps away from the ball and starts blabbing about something - I pick up my bag now while he's waggling and as soon as he makes contact I'm off - he just doesn't get it.

Are you sure we aren't playing with the same guy?.......... That's this guy exactly. He's very amusing and has a funny story for everything, but it slows down the game too much and really gets me out of the game and I start playing horribly.

One day my friend Eric (who is nicknamed "Doc") and I went to play and picked up a single 80 year old guy at the first tee. After Eric tees off I say "Nice ball, Doc." The old guy chips in "Doc? What kind of a doctor are you?" Eric explains that it's just a nickname and that he's lawyer, not a doctor. We all have a little laugh and play on down the fairway. Eric drains a bender to make par and I say "Nice putt, Doc." The old guy chips in "Doc? What kind of a doctor are you?" Yep....all....day.......long......

They never do...

I love it when they are marking their score on the green when there is someone on the fairway waiting to hit and I am already standing on the next tee box.
