I am looking at maybe adding a fairwood to my set and am looking for a VERY forgiving wood. I have looked at Nike and Adams woods as well as Gigagolf. Can anyone make a good recommendation?

I'm a big fan of my SQ2, if you can find one. The SQ Machspeed are great, too.

If you have a tendency to hit the ball left to right, and want a fairway wood that can correct for it, there are plenty of those -- I believe many of the Cobra woods do this, for example.

I think forgiving fairway woods are called hybrids nowadays.

But seriously any of the square headed woods will be really forgiving

Um, unless they do? If someone's bagging a driver, 1H and 2H, what has been substituted?

He's right in a sense. Most hybrids are meant to replace the lower irons, but they can replace woods as well.

I'm currently looking for a nice 4 wood myself, and then I think I'd have a fairly complete bag, going 12* driver, 17# 4wd, 21* Hybrid....

Since that's pretty much what I have, I would agree with you.

I have to agree with Shindig here.

I have a SQ Dymo2 3 wood that I am very happy with. It is forgiving for offcenter hits, yet sends the ball flying with good contact. I can also get quite a bit of shape into my shots too with it. good luck!

Most forgiving fairway wood I've owned is my current 2007 Big Bertha 3 wood. Fantastic off the tee. Great off the fairway. Not so great out of the rough, then again, what fairway is.

It is very straight and forgiving.

Driver: R9 460

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

You might give the red Diablo woods from 2009 a try. They've been upstaged by the Edge models, and are on clearance.

Haven't played them myself, but they sell well at local shop, and everyday golfers who use them seem to like them.

Also, if you go to one fairway wood, consider a 4W. Many people find them easier to hit than a 3W.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Not exactly, no. A good 3-wood is longer that any hybrid, unless a person can't hit a 3-wood properly.

I like my Wilson Staff Fybrid so much it's bumped my litle Titleist 5-wood out of the bag, but if I want an extra few yards (like I could do with the 5-wood) I'm SOL with the Fybrid. It's easier to shape shots with though. I've tried to love my 17 degree 2-hybrid, but I'd rather hit a 2-iron than that POS any day.

Yeah I pretty much despised the 18* hybrid I had and dumped it. Love my 21* though.

Been looking for a good 4 Wood at a reasonable price, they are harder to come by than I thought. I've yet to scower the depths of EBay though, it still scares me...

I picked up a 2009 Cleveland Launcher 17* a few weeks ago. So far I really like the club. Plays equally well off the tee or the fairway. I haven't tried it out of the rough yet.

I'm a fan of the '08 TM Burner also. Very forgiving and the ball launches high - even off the turf.

Although you may want to consider a 17 deg. hybrid as well. I was demoing them the other day. According to the launch monitor, I was only about 5 yards short of my 3W with it. So I ended up buying a 19 degree to split the gap between my 3W and 3I. We'll see if that distance holds on the course.

Another option to consider is a 4W, then a hybrid, and then go into your irons.
