I have been noticing that Dicks is selling some Maxfli tour balls at a very good price. A google search has not brought up much information. So I was wondering does anyone play maxfli balls? Or has anyone tried them? What is the general consensus on them?

I have played the Maxfli Revolution LTD ball, and it's ok. Last weekend, I found an older stamped Tour Fire ball (looked brand new, and did not have the silly fire flame on the pole), and it played surprisingly well. Had one of my longest drives of the day on the 18th hole (GPS measured 268 yds), and it felt soft off the putter.

I have not yet tried any of the new Maxfli Tour balls, but I would buy some if the price was right.

This is the ball you want. 39.99 from Dicks... 10 bucks cheaper than a ProV1.. and for hackers like us I believe comparable performance

edit: they also sell 6 ball packs for 19.99... that way you don't have to commit to the whole dozen

edit 2: according to Dicks website you get a 6 pack for free when you buy a dozen...

I've played the Tour and Tour LC balls and found that they don't have the durability of a ProV.

If you're going to pay $40 or more for a dozen golf balls I'd personally buy the Pentas or ProV1s. Slightly better balls and more durable in my opinion.

Another option, and granted they are a bit harder to find, is the Wilson FG Tour. Retail is $38/dozen. Very impressed by this ball and I think it really flies under the radar of golfers.

The Maxfli Revolution is one of my all-time top five favorite balls. Loved them! The first ball that spun only slightly less than the Tour Balls, but at half the price. As with most other Maxfli balls, they are discontinued before I could lose a dozen. I'm a Tour Fire fan as well, but this year I ditched everything in my bag for the Srixon Z-Star.

I was at DSG the other day and had $10 in rewards $ to spend. Bought a 6pack of the tours for $9.99. Not bad at all if these are good.

They also sell a 6pc sample pack. you get 2 of each of their 3 tour version. One for spin, one for distance, and one for slower swing speeds.

I'll be anxious to try these out.

Does anyone know who manufactures the Maxfli balls now?  I know the brand is owned by DSG/GG now.  I have always been a Maxfli fan and was sad when they went to DSG, not the same Maxfli anymore.  However, I do really enjoy the stand bag I bought last fall, very great quality.

dicks actually has the 6 packs on sale for $9.99. The full dozen packages are still 30+, but for $20 for 2 6 packs, its worth a try.

I tried the Maxfli Revolution "U" and really liked it BUT as others have noted I found it cut up far to easily.... At the time it was one of the cheaper Urethane balls I could find.... but now days I can find last years model of a popular ball for similar prices.....

  • 1 year later...

Just went to dicks to look for some gun stuff never really cared for their golf dept. They dont have any of the higher quality more recent Wilson offerings. I noticed that they had maxfli golf balls. "all urethane golf ball lineup" I'd only known maxfli for the noodle ball i used to hit when i first started playing...then realized it wasn't all that great and was designed for youth and older players in mind. I know i read something that maxfli used to make some of the best tour balls in the biz but i thought maybe those days were gone.

I know they are exceptionally Aussie territory equipment or something?

I noticed the ux/4 and u/4..tour level balls kindve comparable to the relationship between the prov1 and prov1x. Also the fgtour and fgtourx by Wilson which is very identical in the feel of the cover. "sticky" would be appropriate .

I decided I'd try the ux/4 only because the first round of the year i got ballsy and bought a sleeve of prov1x balls. Never was a fan. It was louder off the tee and not as soft off the putter. (by the way how it used to be that harder balls are higher compression and more tour levels. But now they are longer than the more spinny brother (prov1 fgtour maxfli u/4) so is it for better players looking for distance? Or or low handicappers looking for distance. Kinda like old top flites "rocks") anyways i had a nice outing with the prov1x. Not great off the tee but exception shot into the 18th green with my 54* wedge. Low punch that hit abover the hole and darted back right.

So I figured I'd give the ux/4 a try..

And will make sure to give an update on performance.

But I wanted to ask...is maxfli owned by anyone like Callaway or titleist? It seems as though they are trying to be reborn

No wonder they practically highlighted the section of maxflis with signs and big words haha

Anyways I figured id show my impression on the u/4x in comparison to the prov1x. And I can say that the maxfli held up and matched what my expectations hoped.

I'll go from tee-green literally.

Off the tee this ball is very good long if you slot your driver right. What did alarm is its feel manages to be more solid in terms of feel off the driver...and this translates to the other parts if your game too. It had good side to side help and in some cases played somehow between a high workable ball to a straight shooter. Off the tee I can only say its exceptional for the type of ball it is trying to be as well exceptionally well for the price (compared to prov1x)

Irons are no different long and straight with ample workabilty but its the short irons to wedge shots where this ball surprises you. The prov1x had loads of spin and I couldn't using the more spinny brother prov1 and the maxfli u/4x did no different which again not only is expected from the type of ball it is trying to be but also amazing considering the maxfli history as well as the price.

There is some complaints about durability in which I think could be directed to the old maxfli tour ball because even with my aggressive pre-2010 MacGregor VIP wedges these things really held shape. The cuts in the ridges are not nearly as often or big as some very soft urethane cover golf balls.

off the putter again a bit solid but on my yes! Putter when you really caught it right this thing suddenly turned into a marshmellow. Its real plus mark is the distance control and how reliable it is. I once started putting a low compression Wilson ball and the thing was sooo soft it rocketed off the face. Simply put, no distance control so clearly this ball does the job.

all in all this ball (slightly ever so slightly more firm than a prov1x) does exactly what it says. It plays like a tour level ball made for slightly lower spin off the tee and ever where else while still giving you great feel and spin on and around the greens. I've seen distance increases as well. I think the maxfli u/4x is a ball that really can improve many players games and maybe even give some of the "anti-prov1" golfers some hope.
