this is a story that id like to share with my fellow sand trappers.

So I'm playing my local course and im on the 10th hole. I'm playing a Pro Vx with my usual unique mark on it. i hit my drive in the left rough. The 5th hole runs along side the 10th and is a very similar hole (both are doglegs to the left and the greens are next to each other). So I'm walking up the 10th fairway and ive marked with my eyes where my ball is in the rough. im about 200 yards away from my drive and i see some guy coming out of the trees from the 5th hole onto the 10th.. he stops RIGHT where my ball is, peers down and casually takes a club out of his bag and is setting up to hit his ball. at this point I'm thinking, ok, maybe his ball is right next to mine or something, no biggie. Because surely he wouldnt be dumb enough to try and sneak away with my ball when im walking up the fairway would he? he hits and walks away. I'm walking up to my ball and what do you know? i cant find it. i find the place where he hit from and about 2 feet to the left of that is a Pinnacle!!!! I'm like no F***ing way!!!

So, I leave my bag and pick the pinnacle up and start walking to where he is about to hit "his" ball again. i say "excuse me sir, but i think you accidentally hit my ball back there." He has the nerve to say to me, "no I'm playing Titleist 2." At this point I stop giving him the benefit of the doubt because he is just treating me like a jerk. I say, "c'mon man, thats my ball, you know it, I know it, this is yours in my hand, I have 2 black dots with a red circle around them under the Titleist and there they are right there" i go and pick my ball up and toss him his pinnacle. At this point he says "OHHH, woops i didn't see that mark on there." HAHA yea right dude.

I really couldn't believe he would do that. He tried to come up on a Pro V when i was watching the whole time. This kind of stuff happens ALL THE TIME on the courses I play and is usually the reason for a "lost ball" except its not usually seen. But when the ball just disappears and is nowhere to be found, more often than not it is because it was picked up. especially when it is a high end ball. Sorry its so long but I just wanted to vent.

Does this happen to anyone else ever on your courses?

That is hysterical and yet pathetic at the same time. "I didn't see that mark on there." Yeah, the words TITLEIST and PINNACLE look so much alike.

Thankfully it hasnt happened to me. I would have been very upset to if I had to take it that far. IF I find a ball and theres a even remote chance that it could be someones I leave it. I know of this scenario happening far to many times lately.

It happened to me last night, during league play. I hit off of the tee, blocked it right on a par 5. The ball went through a palm tree leaf, and trickled about 100 yards. A twosome on the 18th coming in must have played my ball, because after the other two of my threesome hit, all three of us went to the area we saw my ball head to. We found a Pinnacle. I was hitting a DT Solo with long green marks on the ball. The rough wasn't bad. Lost ball-not a good way to start league night.

I was once teeing off and blocked it right into the other fairway. Immediately I yelled a nice loud "fore" but the guy wouldn't have it. I walk to my ball about to apologize but the guy lines up for the woods and ends up topping it into the woods. Since he was totally out of line I couldn't help but to be a dick myself and comment on him topping it, even though my shot that came close to him in the first place wasn't great (though I did get it off the ground). A few expletives later I was on my way.
He didn't exactly take my ball like in your situation, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Yes, unfortunetly it seems to be happening much more now. Heck I've even had ppl come onto the fairway and p/u my ball, and the damn ball was on the correct fairway!. It has pissed me off so much that now I play Laddie Xtreams except for money games and tournaments. I've also learned not to hold back when I think they are p/u or are tying to hit my ball. It is sad when you have to be a bigger dic than the guy trying to make off with your ball.

Yup thats why I mark my Srixon ad 333 with a three leaf clover on the right of the logo. 1. not that many people play srixon ad 33's and 2. even less mark it with a three leaf clover. I think im safe here in proving my ball.

I had 2 guys pick up my ball to examine if it was theirs the other day. On holes I didn't have trouble on either side I was hitting 3 wood and driver trying to figure out if I was stupid or that there's only a 10 yard difference between the two. First hole I somehow blocked my 3 wood right (very rare for the 3 wood) and hit the driver down the middle (more rare :P) the threesome going up the par 3 to the right were behind the green and one picks up my ball, drops it when he sees me walking in that exact direction. Then the dude's little bro walked into my fairway and picked up my other ball, so I stare him down and he's just like "there's a.....ssssrixon? over here". Later on 8 I pulled one left on a hole that runs parallel to 6 South (just to the right of 8 Middle)....someone apparently thought they pulled their driver 2 fairways left and proceeded to pick up that ball, drop it...go to my one in the fairway..pick it up and drop it...and then zoom off to some other area. This I think is the benefit of playing a Srixon Z-star cuz no one knows wtf it is or how expensive they are, its not as common as a Rock Flight or a ProV. So I mark all my balls with a Black and red dots, one on each side of the number, and somewhat alternating so that if I tee off with more than one I can remember which was the first ;P

^^^^ @ darkprince...yea its amazing how LONG it takes people to figure out that it is NOT their ball... its like they are contemplating whether or not to just throw it in their bag. if i come up on a ball thats not mine i know it immediately and i dont even pick it up...its the biggest pet peeve i have and its a shame that it happens SO MUCH at the course I play. Ive actually stopped playing there because of that. and the fact that they jack up prices and put none of the money back into the course.

Wow, to say he was playing a Titleist 2 is way over the top. Sometimes accidents happen and the wrong ball is played, but this is a case where that certainly wasn't true. My guess is that the Pinnacle ball wasn't his original ball either, he probably starts the day with a Kmart blue light special ball and keeps trading up as he plays the course.

one of my buddies is a thief too and goes crazy over prov's even though he isn't good enough to hit them. So one day we were on the first hole and this other kid we know hits into us and he was using a brand new prov1 and as this kid behind us was driving down the fairway my buddy blatantly picks it up them drives all the way back to tell the kid it went into a pond on the right hand side when his ball was really on the left hand side of the fairway. Another time he tried to pick up this guys prov1 when he was looking right at him and the guys like " you better not be doing what i think you're doing"

I heard a story once. A guy had recieved several dozen personalized ProV's with his very unique name "Bronson" on the side. He hooked one into a tree line that also had an ajoing fairway. A "that is my ball" arguement insued, and the offending golfer claimed to always play "Titleist Bronson's", which the guy got a tremendous laugh out of and called the thiefing golfer out, showing him the additional personalized balls and making aware that Bronson was his name.

Always thought it was a good story.
