It had to be pretty obvious that this thread would be started after the recent, and ongoing, Top 5 BEST shots thread!

#1 - The driver that you absolutely CRUSH, but never see! LOST BALL -2 strokes
#2 - The chip or pitch that hits the stick but doesn't fall
#3 - The 30+' putt that tracks exactly like you imagine, then hits an unseen pile of snot and veers off course inches from the cup.
#4 - The INEXPLICABLE hosel rocket after your drive from #1 that finds the center of the fairway.
#5 - The missed putt from inside 2-feet to save par!

I'm not sure if they are in exact order for me, but those are 5 of the many that just make my heart sink!

#2 - Hitting your 9 instead of your 6
#3 - Bladed 62* LW that takes your from putting for birdie to putting for bogie
#4 - Leaving a 30 foot eagle attempt 8-12 feet short
#5 - Smoking a 30 foot eagle attempt 8-12 feet past the hole.

I could go on and on but those are my top 5 I think. Numbers 1 and 2 are rare and I think I have those under control but numbers 3,4, and 5 happen way too much for me.

- Bladed chips or pitches
- Duffed irons after a gorgeous drive
- Missed short putts (inside of 2 feet)
- Misgauged pitch distances, ie execute the correct swing and hit it 25 yards when I needed to hit it 35 yards and I come up short of the green, or vice versa and I put it over the green. Not a mis-hit, I just misread what shot I needed to play.
- Lazy shots where I setup correctly land but then forget everything I've learned and pull-hook a hideous swing OB. I do that every once and a while, usually between holes 12 and 16, and I never know why. My timing disappears and I forget to use my wrists.

Missed short putts for par
Greenside bunker shot where club bounces off hard "muni-sand" into ball, ball flies over flag, over green into another bunker/hazard/OB.
Playing a chip and run, ball just about plugs in weird poorly draining area just short of fringe.
Choking on the last hole
Playing a golf course you've never played before, hit a drive down the middle, only to find a little creek that runs through the fairway that wasn't visible from the tee box.

Taking a bit too much club and skying it over the green. Or just my usual inability to find a ball I hit off the fairway... sigh, I need to get better at that. :P

best way I've come across for finding balls off the fairway is to not hit them there :D

Yeah, this is the WORST! Especially if you only crush one like that every few rounds.

Another one is when I step onto the tee box with everybody in my group looking and hit a fat shot . .one of my "18-inches-in-front-of-the-ball" specials that dribble 2 yards off the tee box; landing well short of a divot so large you could graze sheep on it.

Absolutely crushing a driver off the tee and watching it go dead straight down the fairway.....until the wind that you failed to properly account for pushes it off the fairway and into the long grass.

I'm sorry for this, but THANKS, I needed a good belly laugh. And after my round today I know exactly what you you are talking about!!!

1. Duffed or shank with short iron or wedge approach shot after mashing your drive dead center
2. Hitting a chip shot with zero confidence and it doesn't even make it out of the rough, just moves a couple inches forward
3. Bladed chip shot over the other end of the green
4. Massive slice, pop fly or dribbled 40 yard tee shot leaving you still 300 or more yards out for your 2nd shot
5. Your last putt on 18... the round is over

1. The poor lag putt that leaves you with a likely 3-jack.
2. Chunk approach shot into bunker
3. Blade bunker shot over green
4. The shot where you adjust your aim to compensate for the afflication you are having that day (hook or slice) and instead hit it dead straight.
5. El-Shanko.

Leaving putt waaayyyy short
Leaving putt waaayyy long.
Hitting your first Tee Shot into the water, OB, or driving range...
Hitting a chip thin over the green.
Massive slice into the next fairway

I can only think of one heart breaker right now. It was the 5 foot downhill putt with a 8 inch left break I missed yesterday on 18 to lose the match 1 down.

But in general the heart breaker are
1. OB drives
2. Approaches that are too long (thin wedges and how I ended up with the above mentioned putt)
3. Sculled/fat chips
4. Missed putts inside 4 feet
5. quackers (duck hooks)

Most of the things I hate to do have been covered already. The one thing that I haven't seen posted is:

1. When you're standing over a ball, and you know you don't feel right at address and you SHOULD back off... but you don't... then you completely mess up the shot (fat, thin, slice, hook, top, chunk, whatever). Nothing ticks me off more than when I do that and then I ALWAYS say it aloud just to vent... but I KNOW I should have moved away and restarted my routine.

Pisses me off just typing it.

That's probably my number one flaw - it has been factor in hosel deep fatties, green airmailing skulls, flubbed pitches, and snap hooked tee shots.

That and standing on the tee without any sort of plan then wondering why my ball didn't end up in position A.
