Well tomorrow I have a crazy early tee time (by most peoples standards, I am usually at the office at this time during the week) at 6:27AM. I didn't know courses had such early times, but apparently the Mountainview Course in Morgantown does.

How do you guys prepare your bodies to be ready to go at such early times? I'm a slow starter anyway (usually take 3 or so holes before I feel good). Your thoughts, and any advice you can offer to my humble game would be appreciated. I imagine the course is going to change like crazy as the sun comes up and it begins to warm. This is my home course, so I am comfortable with the layout, but I've always played it around 9AM.

take more time to stretch than normal, and a few extra full speed practice swings.

If I have an early tee time, I get up early...for example, if I had that tee time, I would be up at 4am. Have breakfast and a coffee or two, watch TV, maybe stretch a bit...I find by the time I get to teeing off, I am more awake the earlier I get up....If I woke at 5:30, then i would still be drowsy by that tee time.

Agree with getting up early. I would get there with plenty of time, too, and then do some chipping and putting, a fair number of practice swings with a few different clubs, and then get going.

I usually find the early morning rounds the best because I'm not wound up yet, so it's easier to stay relaxed.

nothing....

get up, get your a$$ to the course and tee it up

thats not even early
try teeing it up @ 5:08am - before the morning fog has even lifted or before the sun has even breeched the horizon AND BEFORE the grounds crew has even had coffee....that's early

shot my best round of the year on that day - 71 (par 71)
finsihed by 8:30 and before wifey and kids were even up
fun, but too early for me to make it a regular thing

Just do anything you can do before the round to get warm. Whether it be stretching, running, jumping jack, anything.

Yea thats more important than warming up. Nothing worse than having to go back to the clubhouse at the 4th hole.

I wake up 2 hours ahead if possible and get to bed early. NO COFFEE. Your body will start waking up with a couple pints of fresh cold water. Then stretch and take full swings

I do early rounds all the time. Summertime in LA you can get pre-dawn 5:30 AM times at lots of courses. I've never had problems feeling awake that early if I'm up for something I'm excited about (ie, if I'm up to dawn surf or golf, I'm fine, otherwise....). I hit a 74, beating my best score by 7 strokes, with a 6 AM tee time a couple weeks ago, and I woke up at 4:50.

If you struggle to get going, I think other than what people have mentioned some exercise really gets you going. Maybe a little 15 minute jog, or even just 5-10 minutes of jumping jacks, high-knees, a few push-ups, whatever. Get some blood pumping, but obviously don't go to a point, given your level of fitness, that will end up making you tired by the back nine.

I'd say go tie one on the night before, sleep a few hours, wake up and eat a healthy breakfast at the diner/dive of your choice, drop a deuce, stretch, hit some chips and putts and go out and shoot a low round. I always play my best when I'm feeling a little 'off' because you're just trying to accomplish tasks instead of overthinking stuff. To me, an early round isn't a burden - it's an opportunity to be a legend the night before and then go out and be a legend the next day.

I get up at 4am every day, so to play golf at 6:30am would be sleeping in for me. Just go to bed at a decent time (so that you will get 8-9 hours of sleep), eat a hearty breakfast, drink a cup of coffee and you will be fine.

This is why I keep around the cheap balls that I have found on the course. If I have to play a round at a course with no range to warm up, I'll head over to the park next door to me and hit a few before I leave to loosen up. And since they were found/free/cheap balls that I would never play in a round, I can feel free to leave them for others to take.
