Was at a bar and I met this guy who said he had only ever played golf 4times, his score was as follows for the 4 outings. 115 104 95 89. Just wondering if anyone out there or if there is someone who you knew that had this kind of an ability or anything like that on there first trip. Personally I think he was lieing in some way or another.

I am a new golfer and here are my scores, 125, 118, 110, 111, 104 (WOO), 110

And that's at an easy course too, so yeah I think he was probably lying or not keeping his score correctly. It depends on how much practice he had between each round too I guess.

A good friend of mine in college started playing with us, and within a few weeks, he was wiping the course with our rear-ends. He got a job at the course and after he graduated, he became a PGA professional.

That is - without any doubt - North Korea's Kim Jong-Il. He shot a 38 under, including 11 hole-in-ones on his first round:

According to North Korea’s crack research department, the diminutive dictator shot a 34 his first time golfing. And no, not at mini-golf, at a championship, par-72 course. He drilled home 11 holes-in-one in his miraculous 34-under round and reportedly still shoots in the low 50s, though at 60-plus years of age, his holes in ones are down to four or five a round.

I mean it would be tough to say, its certainly possible... He could play once a month for four months and practice a lot inbetween. Or 4 times a year and practice in between.. Perhaps we will never know

dont know if this counts but after playing as a righty for 10 years as an 8 handicap i changed to left handed (my natural side) and after a week of practise played a 92 first time out, no cheating and no gimmies.

A lot of golf is course management, decision making and putting chipping so having the experience may have helped alot, even if i was scuffing a few shots.

My uncle and his wife (I guess you could call her my aunt) went golfing somewhere for the first time. They played 9 holes and my aunt claims my uncle shot around par on 9 holes. They were talking about chipping in, sinking long putts, bouncing off trees back to the fairway. Once in a million kind of things. Since that day, I don't believe a word they say.

I've heard of stuff like this too. Some people are just really talented, and have a knack for the game. Hard for me to imagine, but then again, it's hard to believe that some people run a 4.3 40 yard dash.

Yep. He just naturally got the club into a strong impact position from the get go, so he got good fast. Funny thing was that he wasn't a baseball or hockey player. He played goalkeeper on his high school soccer team. No previous stick and ball prowess to attribute his rapid improvement.

Those sound about like my first scores. I played baseball and other sports though. It wasn't until I started messing with my swing that I hit ruts. I was by no means a great player, but I could beat 115. If you make halfway descent contact and keep them in play, it's doable. It's when they start flying OB and in hazards that drive people into the really high scores. I can still remember talking about the key being to keep it in play, so I would swing really slowly and just make sure my shots didn't penalize me.

I am teaching a friend of mine to golf, he has never swung a club till this year, after 2 months he broke 50, twice for 9 holes. I am impressed he dropped his score so quickly from around a 75 for his first 9 to a 49.

75 to a 49 isn't that big of a deal. Its once you get below bogey golf that thigns get fun ;)

i would say i played 120 golf for about half a year, then i was down to probably breaking 100, then breaking 90 with in 2 years.

A lot of natural golfers are able to see a good swing and replicate it very quickly. They have a strong visual sense that when coupled with good athleticism allows them to be a good golfer fast.

i have a friend who's golfed for roughly 2 months or so but NEVER with a driver. He had played a few short par 4's strictly with irons. Has a downright ugly swing. He recently got a driver for the first time and we decided to play a round at one of the tougher courses around here.

The guy has incredible hand eye coordination. Despite the ugly swing, all his shots (a bit short in distance) but were all dead straight. His drives were all consistently in the fairway at roughly 220 yards out. Likewise, his wedge and chip shots were resulting just as good as mine! I can't remember a single shot that he hit that was completely messed.

He ended up shooting 94 on a course with 72.5/137, for his 4th time golfing ever. Very impressive.

For the record I believe that guy from what he said has never practiced between rounds. The way he made it sound there was even a good bit of time between those rounds too. He did however say he was going out with a friend who could shoot near par. I just can't believe someone breaking 90 on their fourth trip , crazyness.

My score has changed greatly in the last year or so.
I started last summer being able to shoot about 100 in a round. Then at the beginning of this summer I could shoot about 95.
Now, I shoot about an 83-85 in a round. And I am still getting better. So yes, your score can change, and some people just have a nack for things, but I think it is hard to get THAT much better in four rounds. I gotta call B.S. here.

Heh... I want some of that natural talent. Over this summer (only gone out three times on a course), I've hit an 84 and an 86 on a par-3 18-hole course (par 54 1154 yds), and a 58 on a 9-hole par 3 and 4 course (par 33 2620 yds). Would be nice if I had a huge drop like that.
