The 2011 PGA Tour season tees off tomorrow at Kapalua.  As always, the field is pretty strong and filled with winners from the previous season.  We can just discuss the tournament in this thread.  Feel free to give your predictions, thoughts, etc.

I'm picking Dustin Johnson to win this week, but there are plenty of others capable of winning the first event of the season.  What does everyone else think about the first tourney of 2011?

DJ is a good pick---he played well at Whistling Straits in the wind.  Aussies and South Africans tend to do well in Hawaii.  It's summer in the southern hemisphere, so the Aussies and South Africans tend to be in peak form, while most of the US players are coming off the Thanksgiving-->New Year's cold weather/ football couch potato/over eating season.  The Aussies and SA's are familiar with the grass and wind conditions in Hawaii.  Ernie Els, Ogilvey, and McDowell have been playing well.  It'll be interesting to see how McDowell does with the Srixon equipment and how Ogilvey does with his sore finger and stitches.

I was watching the FedExCup Kickoff last night on The Golf Channel, and AK is in dynamite shape.  If he is right mentally, he is going to win a lot of money in 2011.  Dustin Johnson looked a little off, but he might turn it on when it counts.  I'm interested to see how everyone plays today.

I am not saying that guys don't try in this tournament, but I don't think players necessarily treat this tournament like the others, especially with the limited field and no cut.  It's like the Disney, guys bring their families and head to the beach and party a bit.  I think one of the Aussies is going to take it.

I think Appleby will be a contender.  Ogilvy just got 12 stitches in his hand yesterday so I'm not going to count on him, he siad its in an annoying spot.  I will be rooting for AK though.

Ogilvy has pulled out because of the finger injury, so there won't be a three-peat.  That could definitely put a damper on his early-season plans, and he usually does most of his damage the first three months of the year.

Bubba hit a ridiculous second shot on the 18th.  Took driver and knocked it to 10 feet from 305 yards out.  He hit like a 50 yard slice to get it there too.  He just sunk the putt for eagle.

question - if tiger had won that chevron challenge at the end of last year, would he have been eligible to play in this tournament?

No.  It was not a PGA tournament.  It is his charity tournament.  Besides, he hasn't played in the Tournament of Champions event for a quite some time now.

What  do you guys think of Camillo being DQ'd when the public viewers called in saying he broke Rule 23-1, which states: "When a ball is in motion, a loose impediment that might influence the movement of the ball must not be removed." This happened the day after when they were showing highlights of his troubles.

I think we're already discussing it here , generally.
