I never understood why we all love Fred Couples. Is it just because of his easy beautiful swing? In the 90s he was probably just about everyones favorite golfer. Even now, he's loved by most golf fans.

I think it's his swing, his seemingly cool demeanor, and he just really seems to enjoy playing. Plus if you listen to other pro's they all love him so he must just be a really likable guy. I was at the At&t; National 2 years ago and freddie hit one a little left close to the rope he came up to his ball had a wait and talked with this random family until he had to hit. That kind of stuff goes a long way with people.

What's not to like?

He is the personification of cool.  But he can't always be as cool as his demeanor suggests.  Not possible.

From what I hear from someone who's spent some time around him at a club in AZ, what you see is what you get.  This is not some sort of a facade.

He lived in South Florida for a number of years and was just known as a real guy just like you see him on TV.  He is not pretentious, but just the kind of guy you would want in your foursome.

He was fun to watch in his prime.  Given his popularity, I'd bet most fans probably think his playing record is much better than it really is

I like Freddie's swing, but he's always seemed a bit empty to me somehow?  Kind of like that really good looking girl who gets everything she wants out of life simply because she's so good looking.  I could be way off base with this, so it's not like I dislike the guy, but I don't see the reason for all the adoration he seems to get from the fans because he's so "cool".  I guess I'm more of a prove to me you're cool and then I'll believe it.  Also I've never seen anything about his sense of style (personality, behavior, or appearance) that made me automatically think he's cool.  Young Arnie was always cool, Jack in the 70's was cool.  They just were, it didn't have to be explained, their personality and sense of style made it unavoidable.  Freddie's just laid back and also happens to be a great golfer.  Kind of like that really hot chick who always gets her way...

The guy also seems to have what it takes to win a lot of dough in skins games, or at least he has in the past.  And I'm talking serious coin, more than his "fair share" in fact.  That is something I admire.  I mean, why can't I do that .......

Not challanging your opinion but I gotta ask, what is it about his swing you do not like?

He probably has one of the most enviable swings on tour.

I would love to read your analysis.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

If you actually look at his swing in slow motion, it's not as pretty or enviable as it looks in real speed.

That's a good thing right?

The bong part, not the part about you not being crazy about him

Luckily when he scorches the ball at regular speed the ball doesn't know how bad the swing was in slow motion.

I'm actually surprised he's won as many tournaments as he has. I got used to Freddie and Tom Watson missing 8 foot birdies putts all day long in the 90s.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
