Do SGI clubs count?

So I got some SGI clubs, went out with some friends, got made fun of for having bulky ugly clubs, hit the best round of my life (only been playing golf for a few years, more off than on), and got called a cheater for having SGI clubs and getting a lower score than a couple buddies that I would say are better golfers than I am.

So I'm wondering if you good golfers out there think SGI clubs are kind of cheating? I mean they take less skill to play well, and I am obviously an example of that. I understand the "ugly" part, as they're huge.

I don't really care what other people say about the look, but being discredited kinda sucks.

Thoughts? Opinions?

If they are legal then what's the fuss. Sounds like your boys are a little jealous. And probably playing clubs above their skill level.

How old are these guys?

SGI clubs are legal, and it sounds like your friends are too proud to realize their own level of talent. SGI club will help newer players hit higher and straighter shots. Most better players need clubs that can keep the ball down and provide more playability, which is why SGI clubs aren't seen in the bag of lower-index players.

Don't listen to your friends, just take their money.

Would a player winning the Masters not win it afterall for playing with SGI? No, of course not. As long as the clubs are legal, play them all you want. Enjoy your game with the equipment that work best for you, let the scorecard do the talking.

I think Angel Cabrera won the Masters with a Ping Rapture (driver) in the bag... which was regarded as the SGI model in Ping's line-up.

Ok, as long as real golfers are ok with a less skilled player using these, then I can shrug off the heckling of my friends. I only know one or two people that have less than a +10 handicap. I dropped 8 shots on the last game with these guys. Now if I could stop 3-4 putting, I'd be golden.

They're 30-35 years old, lol, and I'm pretty sure they all have tour type irons and whatever driver is in the window at the local golf shop. They're all a bit more well off financially than I am too.

I'm just glad my irons are going straight and kinda plopping down on the greens instead of rolling off down the back of them.

If that happened to me (a friend buys new SGI irons then beats me) I'd be happy for him. Maybe I use clubs over my head too, but I never begrudge other people for taking a different path to the 19th hole.

Cheating? No. You still have to make a proper swing in order to play well. Sounds to me like sour grapes on the part of your buddies.

HAHA what a bunch of fools. I guess it depends if it was good natured ribbing or if they were truly upset. If they would refuse to place a wager with you because of the clubs you play, then that is truly pathetic and they need to grow up.....

Friends bust on other friends, it's what they do. I am sure if you had clubs like theirs they'd bust on you for having clubs that were beyond your skill level. I'm sure their pride was a little hurt that you beat them and that bugged them more than which type of clubs you used.

They are not illegal at all. Your friends are just jealous plain and simple. If you could get it in the hole with shovel and a baseball bat (Tin Cup style) then go for it. As far as your friends if they keep it up and it really keeps bothering you then stop going with them. I usually go out with my best friend when I go but he is the biggest hot head and has the worst attitude of anyone I know, when it comes to sports in general. He flies off the handle so easily. He always beats me, because he is a better player then I am but he has thrown clubs, kicked balls, scuffed the green on purpose, kicked signs and post on the course and kicked sand on bad shots. Last time I was out with him he was such a baby that he stopped playing with 4 holes to go (he was 9 up on me) and just sat in the cart and didnt talk to me but instead texted some chick he was trying to get with. Since then I have not gone with him (that was my birthday in October) and have started going with my grandfather. My grandfather only played once or twice in his life before last Oct but now he is really really getting into it, even calling me to discuss players on tour. Since then I have also shot my best scores ever with my grandfather, sometimes 5-10 shots better then with my best friend. Sorry for the long winded story but you might find yourself at better player without that set of friends. Ive found a new set of guys to go with and have been having a blast with them, ten times more then my best friend.

Yeah, a lot of that going on too. Behind the whining about my score not counting, there was the "lets see what your clubs can do this time" and the "come on Super Clubs" as I walked to the tee. All in good fun, but still kinda taking away from a good day of golf (for me at least). I know they are game improvement, but it's still a little bit me in there making a shot, right? It's not like they're just automatically hitting the ball in the hole. I'm just in the trees less often and it makes that 2nd or 3rd shot a lot easier. Not as much chipping back onto the fairway to get a shot at the green.

Seeing the worst of 4, get 2nd in the group wasn't fun for them I guess. Not that any of us are really "good" at golf, I'm usually a few shots behind everyone by the end of the front 9, at least.

If I could stop 3 putting, I might stay in second. The friend who gets first, usually is in first by a good amount. He's more serious about golf and has a lot more time to play than the rest of us.
