I'm putting my money on 7.5 as the over/under. Gonna be around there, I think.

Bit premature to make a poll like this. When he wins his 2nd we can get a clearer idea (I personally think he will win 1 of the next 3 majors, possibly revenge at the Masters next year)

Why? We could make one for Schwartzel as well, or is that too premature?

It's a poll for people to express their opinion.

Stop being so defensive of Rory. It's a little embarrassing to watch

How was my comment defensive at all? It was, if anything, the opposite. I was saying we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves.

Thanks for that lovely comment though. You sound like a lovely person. I bet you make your mother proud.

Hard to predict, but he has the potential to be the best ever.

I voted 7-8.

Regardless, it's exciting!

I didn't vote because it's impossible to guess at this point.  He appears (to me at least) to have a near perfect swing, a good head on his shoulders, and no physical limitations or injuries.  Let's see how he plays in his next few tournament after winning a Major, breaking the U.S. Open record, being on Letterman, Leno and all the major news shows throughout the world.  There's going to be a lot of pressure on him to duplicate the results he did this week which is a lot for anyone to handle no less someone 22.   I hope he handles it well and gives us many years of great golf to enjoy.

I think that's about right. I voted 7-8. He has the talent for double digit majors wins, but timing and luck have something to do with it as well. For example, if Jack hadn't come along how many more majors would Arnie have won? Back in 1960, people were saying Arnie was going to be the best ever.  If Greg Norman just wasn't unlucky, he would have had half a dozen majors. If he was lucky maybe 9-10. Jerry Pate won the US Open at age 22 in his first attempt as a professional, fullfilling expectations, then he got hurt at the Crosby hitting out of an ice plant. A few years ago, Tiger seemed like a lock to pass Jack. There are just so many factors that can come into play.

My Tools of Ignorance:

Irons: Cobra AMP 4-GW

Wedges: Callaway Forged Copper 56* and 60*

Putters: Scotty Cameron  35" (Several of the flow neck blade variety)

Ball: Bridgestone B330-RX and Srixon Z-Star

Bag: Nike Performance Carry

I was looking for 7-8 before opening the thread. Slightly ahead of Faldo and maybe as good as Watson or even Hogan - i.e. Really good!!

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

No it's not. Pick something and vote. I could have made this poll a year ago if I had wanted to.

It's impossible to vote? Since you don't mean that literally, you get the same answer as above. What you mean is "it's impossible to predict." It will always be impossible to predict until he retires. That's the fun. Pick something and vote. Wait 25 years. See how close you were.

Put me down for 7-8 as well, Alex. That leaves him in the legend category, but I don't think he'll challenge for best of all time.

You're correct, impossible to for me to predict with any certainty.  If we're just throwing numbers out there I'd agree with you and Sean, 7-8 seems reasonable.  If he turns out to have nerves of steel and capable of handing the spotlight I think he could surpass that.

I said over; as long as he does the smart thing and stays w/ stockton and harmon (i believe those are his coaches). He's 22 and lets say he has 16 more years of good golf left, an average of a major every other year doesn't seem too much. I think Phil has done that since he finally broke through. This is of course barring injury or changing coaches.

One thing that shocked me is that I read he's 5'9"!! I couldn't believe it. He certainly doesn't look that short.

Michael Bannon is his coach. He spent only a brief amount of time with Stockton. So far as I know he hasn't done anything with Butch except to say "hi" to him on the range now and then.

So your vote was 1? Because nobody's voted "1" yet... so what was your vote?
