I only watched a few of the final hours but did see some players with common plastic spikes but i saw none with traditional steel spikes.  Did any viewer see steel spikes, or did anyone in person at Augusta see steel spikes on golfers?

I know more and more pros are going soft spike now.

But I think Bubba has steel spikes, and I know for sure Phil has steel spikes. I think because their swings and footwork that still require having steel spikes.

can't say that I was looking, so naturally, sorry, I didn't see any. But I also watched a record low amount of it anyways.

When Watson was walking on the pine straw on the 18th, it sounded like metal spikes.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Oh really? He was huh? I didn't even notice. Must be the first time he's worn soft spike there. Or maybe he just starting using them this year?

You could definitely tell what Bubba was wearing walking down the path from the 18th to the scoring room.

I miss the sound of metal spikes.

  • 3 weeks later...

Does anyone this it's time to ban metal spikes on tour? With all the bitching by pros about spike marks (I love how the tamp them down after they - presumably - make them miss a putt lol), why not just go to soft spikes?

Yeah I know, there will be complaining about apparent loss of traction & footing & so on. But the technology seems to have gotten to the point that that's not so much an issue now...?

I read a lot of the guys wear those hybrid spikes which are plastic around the outside but have a metal spike in the middle.

Like this:

As opposed to the big old school spikes that Jiminez wears quite often.

I don't see the point of legislating it, and I don't think the players will either. Softspikes are overwhelmingly popular among non-Tour players, especially among juniors who have never played them, that I think we'll see them phased out within a pretty short period of time. Anyway, the amount of players on the PGA Tour the still use them is already very small.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
    • Not sure this is the best thread but, if the rain holds off, today is my 1st round of the year.  Getting ready I can not find my Shot Scope.  I guess I put it away too well for the winter and thus that is may "Winter Depression".  I'm sure I put it somewhere that made sense at the time.
    • 44+39 for an 83. Figuring stuff out.
    • Day 288 - putted on my mat for a while listening to a presentation. Checking my head movement in the mirror, then just focusing on a good stroke.
