Colorado Man Goes on Shooting Spree in Movie Theater

So far 14 confirmed dead, 50 injured.  I would expect the death toll to rise as more info comes in.  The suspect is in custody.

The guy walked right into a movie theater with a rifle and a handgun (an additional gun stashed in the theater), tear gas grenades, body armor, and a gas mask.  Tossed the tear gas and then opened fire.  The suspect appeared to be in his early 20's.  I'm glad they took him alive.  I hope he winds up spending the rest of his life at the SuperMax ADX out there in Colorado.  Supposed to be a living hell.

Scary as heck.

Not me. I wish somebody legally carrying their own weapon had put one between his eyes long before the body count got that high! But that's just me......

I live about 20 minutes away from where that theater is. They were showing the new Batman Movie at midnight lastnight.

People are crazy, we need to outlaw guns, it's out of control.

Yep, the classic argument about guns.

This guy had full combat gear and tear gas. Now how do you get tear gas? I thought that was not legal to purchase?

What I'm saying is, how in the heck do you buy tear gas, and bomb making supplies. This guy boobie trapped his apartment with bombs also.

Maybe he ordered it online. But its weird.

Don't know about tear gas, but making improvised explosive devices using smokeless powder or home-made explosives is pretty easy.

That's the bad thing about the internet. Way to easy to learn how to do this stuff. Look at it this way, if you wanted to make your own bomb, how would find out?

Like you, I don't know exactly how criminals get weapons illegally. But they do, and always will. Most laws only deter those who are honest. By definition, criminals don't abide by laws and will always find away to circumvent those they choose to.

Of course that isn't what happened. A guy using legally obtainable weapons (tear gas is legal in CO) killed a bunch of innocent people. There is no way of saying if reasonable gun control would have helped. Now I have no clue if he has the proper permits for his gun or not but so far I haven't seen anything to suggest the guy shouldn't have been able to buy a gun. He was a grad (or exgrad) student not some guy with a list a mile long of felonies. Calling him a criminal is a bit simplistic as so far he wasn't one until the spree started.  Obviously all of these comments are early on in the game.
